"Boy's Don't Cry" by The Cure

This is a post I didn't complete at the time so I'm finishing it almost a year later  :(

#DraftPost

I had no idea until recently that there was a movie about this and it was about a transgender boy, until recently.

I wanted to watch the "Boys Don't Cry" movie and had a terrible time getting so I could watch it on our TV.  I can't remember all the details now, I finally rented a viewing on YouTube (I had no idea you could even do that!).

I watched part of it while SueZQ was out driving for Lyft, if I remember correctly.  I started to watch it again before the rental expired but when it got to the part where they started bullying him, I couldn't bear to watch it it.  It was just too painful.  I have never even tried to finish it.

"Notorious" by Duran Duran

I couldn't stop laughing watching this Bill Maher video.  And I just loved the punch line: "I can run this...".

"Merry Go 'Round" by Kacey Musgraves

I love the chorus to this:

Mother's hooked on Mary K.
Brother's hooked on Mary Jane
Daddy's hooked on Mary two doors down

"Black Cow" by Steely Dan

It is so weird that I can't seem to cry anymore.  There are many signs that my hormones are jacked at this point.  It feels so weird that I really, really, really, really, really need to cry but it never happens!  I can get teary eyed a bit, but I haven't had a good cry for well over a month.  Sue commented yesterday that I "have seemed more like Scott than Rachel lately".  :(

Anyway, the line "I can't cry anymore" from this song keeps playing in my head.

"Follow Your Arrow" by Kacey Musgraves

When I mentioned Kacey Musgraves in my post a couple of days ago, I noticed there were a some of her songs that I really love that I haven't posted yet.

This is another song that is spot on, for example:

Say what you think
Love who you love
Cuz you just get so many trips 'round the sun
Yeah, you only... only live once!

"Wives and Lovers" by Jack Jones

Found this hilarious clip from Bill Maher about Donald Trump being a 50's guy:

YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzUd8YrFJCk

Speaking of misogyny this is a song I've loved forever, but the lyrics are pretty misogynistic.  Just listening to the lyrics make me cringe while listening to these videos... OMG!

I love the tune, I've thought for years that I would like to write new feminist lyrics to go with the music.  I'm definitely going to do that...!

The comments in the first video talk about how this song was to promote the movie by the same name, but did not appear in the movie.

"Cake by the Ocean" by DNCE

Having only heard the radio friendly version up until now, I did a double take when I heard the real version.  Love it!  And I love the video!  Awesome!!

"Fear" by Sade

I was saying this morning that I'm scared that I might have to stop wearing high heels because of the problems with my feet I've been having this year. Then I was listening to one of my mix CD's and this song came on.  High heels are such a big part of my identity, it is one of my worst fears that I won't be able to.

"Harper Valley P.T.A." by Jeannie C. Riley

I had never listened to this whole album before a week or two ago.  I had no idea the whole album was about the same topic, like the album had a theme.  Fascinating!

It is crazy to think that we are still dealing with judgment from the religious right nearly 50 years later.  My daughter, when her family was moving back from Hawaii last year, said one of the things she hated the most about Utah is how judgmental many people are here!  I agree completely!

I don't know why some people feel it is their duty to tell other people how to live their lives!  It reminds me of Kacey Musgraves "Biscuits" song, I believe there is a lot of truth in that song!

"Hang`Em High" by Hugo Montenegro

I was listening to a Hugo Montenegro album this morning and I've had "A Future Left Behind" stuck in my head all day.  Since I used it to update my post for 3-May-2012 I decided to post this song for today.

"I'd Love To Change The World" by Ten Years After

We started watching "I Am Cait" season 2 last night, there was some talk about changing the world and it reminded me of this song.

However, in listening to it again, I'm don't agree with many of the lyrics.  I debated whether to even post it.  It starts off with: "Everywhere is freaks and harries, dykes and fairies.  Tell me where is sanity". Since I can identify as a freak, dyke and fairy, are they saying I'm insane??

And it goes on to say "Tax the rich to feed the poor, until there are no rich no more".  I just a Bill Maher clip about that exact subject the other day.  They taxed the rich and now California is the worlds sixth largest economy in the world, all by itself.  He listed  several states that cut the taxes on the rich and they are drowning debt.

So I disagree with some of the lyrics in this song.  But I do want to change the world to make it better for all us "freaks".

"Hide & Seek" by Howard Jones

Our friend Ryan invited us to the Howard Jones concert last night at The Complex.  It was fun.  Howard talked about his concert at Park West several times and I remember how much fun that was too.

Howard told a story about someone (filmmaker) that he was working with here in Salt Lake City that was talking with him about this song.  He parsed the line "Hope you find it in everything you see" differently.  He took it as "Hope, you find it in everything you see".  Interesting take!

"When the Levee Breaks" by Led Zeppelin

We watched the film "The Big Short" last night and it was really fascinating. The greed was absolutely astounding!  The film ended with this song which seems pretty appropriate.

"Missing You" by Dan Fogelberg

This song was playing in my head this morning when I woke up.  Earlier in the week I found a CD case with some CD-R containing MP3s that I burned in like 2002.  I've been playing one with some favorite Dan Fogelberg songs on it in the car.  I imagine that is why it was doing the earworm thing this morning.

In a way it is kind of appropriate too. I feel like my BFF has been very distant the last couple of weeks.

"Sweet Harmony" by The Beloved

This is so tragic!! I have heard from several sources that in the last 7 or 8 days there have been 7 LDS youth in the LGBTQ community in Utah commit suicide!  That is absolute insanity!  I'm sorry but the leaders and members of the LDS (Mormon) Church need to get a fucking CLUE!  If I may venture into their paradigm for a second, I have to ask: Is that what God wants? ... What would Jesus do?

I saw a meme a while ago: "Driving a minority group to suicide is not religious freedom, it's conspiracy to commit murder!".

Wendy sent me this link: http://www.lindquistmortuary.com/notices/Anthony-Bennett to one of the beautiful souls that is no longer with us.  I believe my grandson was even acquainted with him. It states in his obituary that he was an exceptional musician.  Just think, if he had found acceptance and not made such a final decision, one day in the future I may have been posting some music he created here on this blog.

Every time someone takes their own life it is a major loss to society!!  It is even more tragic when it is because they feel they cannot be accepted by their parents or friends or peers or their church.  We all need to do like these lyrics from the song "Message of Love":

Now the reason we're here
Every man, every woman
Is to help each other
Stand by each other

One of the things this means is to accept one another!!  We all need to live together!  This song came on my MP3 player earlier and it is perfect!  We should all live in Sweet Harmony!

"The Funny Farm" by Homer & Jethro

This afternoon, while I was assembling the bathroom cabinet, I was listening to this record and found one of those songs I loved but had completely forgotten about.  I was enjoying it so much I kept moving the needle back to start it over and over again.

There's a reminder in this song about how the times have changed: "they get 60 cents a dozen when they sell the eggs".  I think we pay around $7 for a dozen organic, free range eggs now.  So in the range of 60 cents per egg.  LOL

"Stressed Out" by Twenty One Pilots

I wasn't sure about this song when I first heard it.  I really liked the "but now we're stressed out" part, but I wasn't so keen on the rap parts. Now I really get into it, it's cool.

"Upside Down" by Jack Johnson

Had some tea with some friends today at Tea Zaanti and this song played in the background.  I remember seeing the video for this at the theater along with another of my favorites: "Rush" by Ali & AJ.  This was a fun video with everything going in reverse...  this is funny I can't find the video that I remember.  The only video I see is the Curious George video.
