"Easy To Be Hard" by Three Dog Night

Randy Underwood and Gaylen Bodily coming down the mountain and me leaning against Gaylen's Gremlin
My brother Randy and I were talking about how sad Gaylen's passing was (See my post from last year: 29-Mar-2017) and he sent me some pictures of Gaylen he had.

I remember Randy (my brother) specifically liking one of Three Dog Night's songs, but now I can't remember which one.  It might have been this one...  I know I really like this one!

"One (Reprise) Finale" by Original (1975 Broadway) Cast

Salt Lake School for Performing Arts production of "A Chorus Line"

A few of the cast afterwards

My friend Sherri invited me to see her son, Noah, in the Salt Lake City School for the Performing Arts production of "A Chorus Line" last night.  I had never seen the show before.  It was so much FUN!  And I was totally impressed by all of the performances!  Noah is such a rock star!  I had a wonderful time!!

This song is one I have loved for years, it was so fun to hear it performed live!

"The End of the World" by Skeeter Davis

RCA 45 Record Player like I had as a kid

I watched the DVD "Girl, Interrupted" last night.  I have a vague recollection of seeing it in the theater with SueZQ, but had very little memory of what happened in the film.

The song "Downtown" jumped out at me and played a part in the film.  I however posted it in my old blog on 8-Nov-2012.

This song was playing when Suzanna woke up at Daisy's apartment.  Lisa commented that Daisy had been playing it all morning.  I immediately thought Daisy had committed suicide and it was a record player that repeated the last record over and over, like my old RCA 45 player.  It turned out that was exactly what the record player was.  A different model than mine, but the same mechanism.

I went searching for a picture of one and found the website shown above.  It is crazy that (admittedly restored) players like the one I had are for sale for $720!!

I also have this 45 RPM record.

"Loose Lid Special" by Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra

I was listening to this "Tribute to Dorsey" record this morning and this song grabbed me.

Wacky to think this record is almost 60 years old and the 78's shown in some of the videos were recorded in 1941, almost 80 years ago.

"This Is Me" by Kesha

WJ sent me a link to this song this morning, said it reminded her of me.  I can say that I totally relate to this song.  This IS me!  This is who I am and I am proud of who I am!

This is kinda funny though.  I didn't make the connection, until I was searching for videos on YouTube: this song is from "The Greatest Showman" movie.  My friend Sherri took me to see it just before Christmas, it was wonderful!

"Prelude to a Kiss" by Wax Poetic

I'm trying to finish this post almost a year after I started it.  I cannot remember where I heard this, unless it was in the movie of the same name.  I can't find it on YouTube.

Here is the Wikipedia page for the Wax Poetic Trip-Hop band

"It Ain't Me Babe" by Nancy Sinatra

I've been listening to my old "Boots" album.  It's in Mono, that seems so weird.  Anyway, I really loved hearing her version of this song.

"Bennie and the Jets" by Elton John

Fixing "Smokey"

I was watching "Running with Scissors" and this was one of the songs in the movie.  It is definitely one of the epic songs from my teen years.  I can't remember why but this song associated with Jan when we were kids.

I found an old picture from that era.  That's Randy Underwood's old Corvair that we bought for $25.  Grandpa Gus called it "Smokey" because of the way it burned oil.  Actually, I don't think it burned it, it was most likely that the O-rings on the push rod tubes were leaking it onto the exhaust manifolds.  A very common problem with Corvairs.

That is Gaylen Bodily facing the camera (and flipping the bird?).  Still so sad that he is gone.  (See my post from last year: 29-Mar-2017)

"Chances Are" by Johnny Mathis

I think about this all the time!
I love that quote!  I absolutely believe it!

Such a great old song.  I was 2 years old when it was a hit!  I for sure remember it from my childhood.

"The Crying Game" by Boy George

I didn't realize how emotional it would be seeing the videos and posting this song.  When I saw this move in the 90's I had NO IDEA that someday I would completely be able to relate to the Dil character.  It made me cry watching scenes from this movie.

I was also sad to read that Jaye Davidson that played Dil "hated the fame":

Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaye_Davidson

I had to get some groceries tonight, first I went to the new WinCo on 21st South.  I had to find the cheapest brand and the smallest size for each item SueZQ had on the list.  Then I went into Trader Joe's and got one item there.  Finally, I went into Natural Grocers to get some bananas and I only had a $1.81 left, so I had to weigh the bananas to make sure I had enough money.  It sounds silly I suppose, but I started crying in the checkout line.  It was a little weird having tears streaming down my face.

I think I should probably watch this movie again, because I don't remember much except for "that scene":

"Requiem for the Masses" by The Association

I intended to  make this post "Six Man Band" but I discovered I already posted it in my old blog back on 21-Feb-2013.  So I decided to post this song instead.

I am still trying to wrap my head around the concept that I'm in a band.  A five woman...  no that's wrong as Marz identifies as non-binary.  I'm in an AWESOME five person band! :)

"I Just Wanna Stop" by Gino Vannelli

Me at Hub City Coffee in Ogden, Utah yesterday
When I was in Ogden yesterday and I stopped by Hub City Coffee.  I thought I looked kinda nice so I took a few selfies.  Still wearing my Rock-n-Roll Camp for Girls (and transgender kids) T-shirt.

Hub City Coffee: https://www.hubcitycoffeeco.com/

Rock Camp for Girls: http://rockcampforgirlsslc.org

It's like life never slows down and some days I just want to stop!  That is what brought this song to mind.

I'm actually finishing this post like three and a half years in the future.  They have developed a new Blogger interface that they say is more "friendly for mobile devices".  In my opinion they have made it horrible for use on my computer.  I *HATE* it!!!!   So I've decided to end my blog on Blogger.com.  Hopefully someday I can figure out how to continue it on my own web page TheRachelEdwards.com.

"Go Supergirl" by Glitter Sisters

The Rock-n-Roll Camp crew

My amazing friend Genevra with her awesome pink guitar

My wonderful friend went to the Rock-n-Roll Camp for Womyn over the weekend and the band she was in is Glitter Girls and this is the song they wrote and performed over the weekend.  The younger girls in the audience were going crazy when they heard this song.

The Glitter Girls line up consisted of:  Eugenie, Frieda, Genevra, and Shell

Another of our friends, Cat Palmer, took the photos.

"Cookin' Baby" by Rock Tit

The bands were all getting on stage for a dry run and I recorded a couple of them.  I love it!

It was funny, I wasn't aware of the band's name so when they finished I thought everybody was chanting "Rocked It!" so I chimed in.  Afterwards when I was watching the video I realized they were chanting "Rock Tit".

YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOus9qMf5h4

Update 25-Feb-2018 - added the lyrics:

Well you say I look like an old girl and sometimes I feel like it too
But girls ain't gotta be young as you to cook the way that I do
Now it's true some think I'm a big ol' girl and pass me right on by
But they'll just have to go to bed hungry while I make some other man cry!

Chorus:
Oh I'm cookin' baby!
Don't you know what I'm talking about?
If you feel the heat from my kitchen
You know you better just get out

I use salt + pepper + spices in my pound cake recipe
Your man's gonna walk away satisfied
When he walks away from me

If I get your man in my kitchen
He'll say (Grrr) this is where it's at!
Cause the meal that I've got planned for him
Won't never make him fat

"Bob's Yer Uncle" by Happy Mondays

Note 24-Oct-2019:

Since my original post, this has become one of my favorite lesbian films.  I bought the DVD and I have watched it several times and I thoroughly love it.  Just so fun!!

#LesbianFilm
#FiveStars

Original post:

I watched the 1995 film When Night is Falling and really enjoyed it!  It had a circus with odd people in it they were so COOL!  I could totally identify with them.

I can't remember my train of thought now, but the song "One Love" by The Stone Roses came to mind after this film.  I see that I posted it over 6 years ago on 15-Jan-2012 when my blog was still "Scott's Vital Music".

I'm, again, not sure how I made the leap to Happy Mondays from there.  Same era?  Kinda similar sound?  I've no idea!

Now "Bob's Yer Uncle" is another thing.  It was many years after this song came out that I finally discovered that "Bob's Your Uncle" was a British saying:

Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob%27s_your_uncle

Anyway, I think this is my favorite Happy Mondays song:
