"Wonderin'" by Neil Young & The Shocking Pinks

A couple more shots of the old Plymouth Valiant

This poor thing looks like it's been rode hard and put up wet...
So pink cars remind me of this song, that I saw on MTV way back in the day.  I just loved this song and video!!!  Always one of my very favorites from MTV.  If I remember correctly there was a promo for MTV where they were giving away a pink Cadillac and it was related to this video.

"Pink Cadillac" by Natalie Cole

1963 Plymouth Valiant
I was driving out in South Salt Lake and driving past the street where my dear friend John Byer lived some 25 years ago, before he passed away.  I decided to drive past his old place and when I came around the corner from his place I saw this old very pink car.  Too funny!

I found a website that has photos of various models of Valiants (a Chrysler A-body):

I posted the Bruce Springsteen version of this song in my old Scott's blog back on 16-Feb-2015.  I thought now that I'm Rachel, I should post the version with a female vocal.

Note: a couple of years in the future I actually own a Plymouth myself.  It's a B-body, so larger.  I have to show off a picture of it.  It has some pink stripes on it ;)

I so *LOVE* this car!!!

You can see many more pictures of it in my blog posts in 2020.

"Englishman in New York" by Sting

Mariah and I saw this license plate yesterday and I had to laugh
This has always been one of my favorite Sting songs.  On the last night of my music class at Weber State College (then) the teacher had us bring in our favorite record album and play a song for the class.  This is the song I played.

When it got to the bridge the teacher got all excited and exclaimed that it was Jazz.  Our instructor had played with some of the big names in Jazz back in the 30's and 40's.

"Way of the World" by Max Q

This is yet another post I'm filling in almost two and a half years after I started it.  There is no way I could remember how my picking this song for today came about.

I have already posted the two other Max Q (Michael Hutchence) songs I really love, so it is definitely important to have this one included.

"Easy to Be Hard" by Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66

I have no memory of why I took this photo on 27-Aug-2017
I am finishing this post over two and a half years after I started it.  I have no idea why I took the above photo that day and no idea what reminded me of this song.  But I do love it.  And I would say this album ("Ye-Me-Le") is my favorite Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 album.

"I Drink Alone" by George Thorogood

Selfie in front of what used to be the Zephyr Club
I saw so many great artists and bands at the Zephyr Club!!  I remember going to see George Thorogood and the Destroyers at the Zephyr with my peeps from E&S.  That was such a great show and we had such a great time!!!  We probably had too much to drink, but it was sure FUN!!

I so loved the Zephyr, it was my "watering hole" in that era (the 90's).  I often went and drank there by myself.

I always thought the lyrics to this song were cool, like:  "... so I called up my pal Jack Daniels and his partner Jimmy Beam" and "...my pal Johnny Walker and his brothers Blackie and Red".

"A Man and a Woman" by Ferrante and Teicher

Here it is almost 2 years later and I'm trying to finish some of these old draft posts.  I only vaguely remember some cutesy story on KUTV about a monkey and a chicken loving (?) and taking care of each other (?).  It is heartbreaking that people get down on other people for loving each other even if they are different... or the same (gay).  LOVE IS LOVE!!!

#LoveIsLove

These are my original notes:

KUTV monkey and chicken in zoo

SueZQ a monkey and a chicken go into a bar....

Dr. Norman Spack TED talk

This is the TED talk that I saw back then and watching it today made be cry.  The last two years have seemed like a constant battle for transgender rights with that stupid orange fucker in the White House.  I'm so tired!!

#TransIsBeautiful

YouTube (TED): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzbtSeVZeEE

Anyway I don't remember why I picked this song for this day.  Very possibly I had played a Ferrante and Teicher record that day and enjoyed hearing this song.  Or perhaps I was trying to play off the TED talk topic.  I've no idea now!   I do know I have *ALWAYS* loved this song / tune!!

"Don't Wanna Talk About Love" by Danielle Brisebois

This is another post I'm filling in almost two and a half years after I started it.  There is no way I could remember how my picking this song for today came about.

Another cool thing about this video is the Mercury Cougar she is driving is the same year and color as my friend Randy Underwood owned back in the day.  Except his had black racing stripes on the hood.

"Backyard" by Daphne Willis

I must've been going to put these on ksl.com or something

Here it is the end of May 2019 and I haven't finished this post, so frustrating.  Thankfully I at least put a couple of notes in the draft post to remember something about this day.

I was at the Women's Red Rock Music Festival and first heard and met Daphne Willis there.  Just incredible!

But when I got home SueZQ told me that our new neighbor across the street and a companion showed up at our door in "Home Teacher Mode" and asked for "James Edwards" (my dead name)..  I went WTF?!?!?  I was so pissed about the whole Prop 8 think in California, that I had that name removed from the church records... apparently only in theory.

The church sent me a letter saying they had removed my name from church records.  So how did the new neighbors have my dead name.  I marched over there today (wearing my beautiful white lace dress) and after asking around I got to the ward clerk and explained the situation.  He said "Let's see" and whipped out his cell phone and looked at the membership and sure enough, James was still in there.

So if anybody actually believes the church removed their name, I would say thin again!  There used to be a sigh in one of the junkyards I got parts from that said "Honesty is the best policy.  Ours is second best.".  Obviously that is the Mormon Church's is second best too.

#DeadName
#MormonChurch
#Prop8

I woke up with this song stuck in my head, such a great song!

"Auberge" by Chris Rea

The Naked Truth and The Light

Update 11-Mar-2019:  Added the photo above from one of the most bizarro videos ever!

Original Post:

I'm filling in this draft post almost two and a half years after I started it.  There is no way I could remember what led to my picking this song for today.

I bought the "Auberege" CD when I was in Bremin, Germany.  I'm not sure if I still have it or not, it could be one that Kim ran off with.

I think this video is pretty fun.  I love the outfit the dancer is wearing in it.

"Cruel" by The Veronicas

This book just came to me
Just got back to Salt Lake from my trip to Torrey, Utah for the Women's Redrock Music Festival and to St. George.  I was driving up 300 South and I was thinking about how magical the trip was and how many magic things happened on the trip and happen all the time to me.

Then I thought perhaps I could go to Moab for the Moab Pride Festival.  But I wasn't sure when it was.  I thought probably someone at the Utah Pride Center would know, I'll just stop by there.

#UtahPrideCenter
#Magic
#Magical
#Witchcraft

I walked into the nearly empty lobby (because the Pride Center is moving to a new location).  The library was completely gone.  Kevin (Elder Ball LOL), picked up this book off the the desk, handed it to me and said "Here, do you want this?".

That was so weird, funny, MAGICAL!!!  Seriously, it was THE ONLY BOOK in the place.  It WAS MAGIC!!!  I said "Of course" :)

Anyway, I love The Veronicas.  Such great videos!!  Great cars, great outfits!!  ;)

"Slipping Away" by Dave Edmunds

(Small) Arrow pointing to River's grave
The family insisted on having River's "Dead Name" on marker, I blurred it out
I added a pink arrow pointing to River's grave in the view from the street.  I obviously made it too small, but if you click on the photo it should be larger and you can see it more easily.

"Come Together" by Daphne Willis

Plot Map of that area of Cemetery

Looking SE on 300 E.

River and her sister's graves

I'm finishing this post almost a year and a half after the fact on 3-Feb-2019.  I of course don't remember all of the details after all these months.  I remember wandering around the graveyard for like two hours and didn't find River's grave.  Finally talked to a maintenance man and he told me who to call to get help finding it.  When I did finally find it I realized I had walked past it several times.

Then it was Voting day and the clerk was out of the office.  But she got in touch later and got me the plot map above.

Daphne played this song at the Women's Redrock Music Festival and it was the most rockin' version of this song I've ever heard.

I was listening to the "Respect - A Century of Women in Music" on the way to the Women's Red Rock Music Festival this morning, it seemed appropriate.

This long forgotten song jumped out at me.  I know it seems kinda like "fluff" compared to many of the other powerful songs in that box-set, but it was just so fun to listen to.  And then I've had it stuck in my head ever since.

"Better Make It Better" by Swing Out Sister

I was listening to the "Shapes and Patterns" album this morning and this song was perfect for how I'm feeling and what I've been thinking.

When I went to San Francisco for SOS's tour for that album they did an in store appearance at Virgin Records.  I went walking around San Francisco for a while afterwards (so delightful, SF always feels like home to me).

I went back to the Virgin Records store after my walk and found the sheets above scattered around.  I believe the sheet with writing was the songs they played at the in-store.

As usual I think their lyrics are genius and spot on:

Make it fast, take it slow
But it won't soften the blow
When it's time to go

Maybe old, maybe scared
But you'll never be prepared
For that final blow

Better use your wits
Or you'll lose your mind
There's a world to discover
And you're running out of time

Like a roller coaster ride
Took you by surprise
Now you're burning up inside

Better make it better, yeah
Better make it better
Better make it better
Time's running out fast
Make it last

You can scream, you can shout
But when your time runs out
Deep inside you know

Maybe rich, maybe poor
But when you knock at heaven's door
Then you have to go

Make the most of what you've got
Because it's better than to not
Have anything at all

Live each day as if it's your lastOr you'll find the future's past
And you're left with nothing at all

Better make it better, yeah
Better make it better, oooh
Better make it better
Time's running out fast
Make it last

Cherish every day, each hour
and every single minute
There's no second chance to turn
And start again living your life

Better make it better, yeah
Better make it better, oooh
Better make it better
Time's running out fast
Make it last

The "Shapes and Patterns" version was a revisited version, the original version was on "The Living Return" album.  I love both versions.

"All Summer Long" by The Beach Boys

Scipio, Utah

Scipio, Utah

Scipio, Utah

I'm screwing with the timeline today.  I'm making this post after my trip to Torrey and St. George.  I took these photos on my way to the Women's Red Rock Music Festival on 11-Aug-2017, but since I have so many other photos from that trip, I decided to back up a couple of days and fill in this day with these photos I took in Scipio, Utah on the way to Torrey.

#WRMF2017

I was trying to think of an old car song from the sixties and several Beach Boys songs came to mind.  I remember how delightful it was when this song came on at the end of American Graffiti it topped off the whole movie.

And then a moment popped into my head about seeing Americn Graffiti with Stacy, a girl I met and dated while I was working at Sperry Univac.  We sat in the very back row of seats in the old Century Theaters on 33rd South in Salt Lake City and made out the entire movie.  I would have to say that was the best make out session I ever had in a theater.  :)

"Looking Through A Tear" by Wayne Newton

I bought this copy of this album at Randy's Records, but it was cool that it has the original stickers from Skaggs Drug.  Believe me I have plenty of albums that came from Skaggs Drug.

I so remember getting ice cream cones with my grandpa at Skaggs.  My memory is failing, I think he like the Banana Nut flavor for one.

It is so weird to see Wayne Newton performing this song on Bonanza.  Bonanza was one of my grandpa's favorite shows!

"The Village" by Wrabel

My wonderful and amazing vocal coach, Mindy Pack, sent me a link to this video.  It makes me cry every time I watch it, but in the end it is a good cry!

I'm very proud to be a "colorful bird" and even though it is painfully slow I believe "The Village" is getting better.  I have met hundreds of people that support us.  Hopefully this beautiful music and video like this will help enlighten some others.
