"Halo" by Depeche Mode

I was listening to the "Violator" 180 gram vinyl record this morning.  I'm just amazed how good this record sounds.  I got chills listening to it.

When I was in Ogden yesterday I went to the mausoleum and visted my grandparents final resting place.  Funny I still vividly remember being in this hallway with my grandmother when she was changing the flowers on her parents graves.

"All Those Years Ago" by George Harrison

I spent a good part of the day in Ogden today.  I love driving around reliving all the times I spent there.  I went to the old diner where we often ate Sunday dinner.  I sat in the same spot where I sat many, many times with my family.  Who could have ever imagined, 50+ years ago, that one day I would be sitting there as a woman and happier than I've ever been!

I'm pretty sure this is the first grocery store I would have ever been in.  Back then it was "George's Market".

"New Dress" by Depeche Mode

Miss Divine went for our counseling session today in her LDB.  Depeche Mode's "Dressed in Black" came up in the conversation.  Since I posted it back in October, I thought I would post another song I love from the "Black Celebration" album.

"Same Love" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Mary Lambert

SueZQ found this today on the 2014 Grammy Awards CD.  What an awesome song!  Some of my favorite lines:

  • The same rights for everybody, there is no difference
  • No freedom until we're all equal
  • A world so hateful that some would rather die than be who they are

"Little Red Corvette" by Prince

We lost another amazing artist today.  First Bowie and now Prince!  Holy Shit!

Since my favorite color is red, I want to be a little red Corvette...

It appears that, like the Beatles, Prince music on YouTube is non-existant.  Here is a cover:

"State Of The Art (A.E.I.O.U.)" by Jim James

SueZQ was watching the first episode of Blacklist tonight and this song played near the end.  It caught my attention, so I dug around and found it.  Great video too!

"Do It Again" by Steely Dan

Slipped today and fell off the healthy eating wagon.  Go back Jane and do it again :(

I have a distinct association with this song and my friend Randy working at a self service gas station on Riverdale road.  I'm not sure if that was in the city of Riverdale or Roy.

I was planning to go to the Queer Prom that the Utah Pride Center was presenting, but I wasn't feeling very well today.  Still too many things going on.  :(

"Good Feeling 1957" by Three Dog Night

I was still feeling really good this morning.  While laying there in my cozy bed thinking about that, the verse from this song popped into my.  Took me a while to remember who it was.  This time the search on YouTube wasn't much help.  I was fairly certain it wasn't the Violent Femmes, LOL.  That's quite the falsetto too...

"I'm Sitting On Top of the World" by Les Paul & Mary Ford

Wow!  What an amazing day!  I can't even believe how amazing and wonderful I've felt today!!  And I felt so powerful!  I finally was able to change my name and gender at Weber State.  My previous attempt back in January was a fail because I only had a photocopy of my Social Security Card.  I was fairly frustrated, but I suppose rules are rules...

Anyway, I've felt very powerful today and very good about myself and who I am!  I so *LOVE* being a Woman!!  It feels so right!!!

"I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down" by Paul Young

I was thinking last night how my house of cards kinda fell apart last night.  It seems like there is a song that talks about your house of cards falling down but I can't think of what it is.  I thought about the song "Crumblin' Down" but I posted it last year.  Anyway, this one came to mind too...

"Just A Girl" by No Doubt

This is the perfect song for the one year anniversary for my blog transition!  Because I'm just a girl.  I like this video a lot too!  There is a cool Buick and then wrecked Monte Carlo is the same vintage as my old Monte Carlo.

Plus we have this bathroom bullshit in North Carolina!  I love the flashing bathroom signs in the video...

"A Stroke of Luck" by Garbage

I woke up at 3 A.M. this morning and my skin was crawling, I couldn't stand it and had to get up.  It reminded me of the "As Heaven Is Wide" song by garbage, but I posted it to my old blog clear back in September 20, 2011.

Speaking of my old blog, one year ago today was my last post on it.  The last year has been the best year of my life, NO QUESTION!

Anyway this is another song by Garbage that I love!  And it sort of fits in with the creepy crawly feelings I had this morning: "bad blood and ghosts wrapped tight around me".  It just has kind of an creepy feel to it...

"Break On Me" by Keith Urban

A couple of days ago WJ sent me a link to this song on YouTube.  I can relate.  The lines about "when someone you know becomes someone you knew" and "word you wanna take back, but you know you can't when the pages won't turn and it still hurts".   And I never expected the line "shatter like glass".

"Check Out Time" by Dionne Warwick

I put the "Very Dionne" album on the turntable this morning and heard this song for the first song.  I love it!  I can relate to the lyrics:

I've got to go on living, I just can't exist
I want to taste all of the things I've missed

This is one of those songs that paint such a vivid picture.

"As Time Goes By" by Dooley Wilson

Ahh yes... April 8th... kind of an infamous date in our family.  Definitely a funky day!

Almost 4 decades ago I wrote a program to determine the next time Good Friday would occur on April 8th.  It was based on the formula in the assignment I had around that time.  I found the assignment sheet not to long ago and I've scanned it in below.  I note that it was printed with a Mimeograph, too funny!!

It *ALWAYS* feels so weird to me now, reminiscing about events in the past and now knowing I was always a woman.  Thinking about how my life would have been different...  I have to remind myself to not go down the "What if..." road.  I see now that I've had a wonderful life, even though I was pretty broken.

Anyway, thinking how "time goes by" reminded me of this song.  I posted the version by Harry Nilsson back on 14-Dec-2012, so I thought I would post the original version now.

"Hellacious Acres" by Kris Kristofferson

I just spent over 2 hours on the phone with the IRS trying to verify my name got changed correctly.  It didn't!  And the final conclusion: I need to call the SSA so they can push it to them.  I'm pretty sure this is going to another round of "The Great American Point the Finger at the Other Guy".

I played that game for a couple of months between the SSA and Medicare.  I'd call Medicare because the gender was wrong on my Medicare card and they would tell me I had to contact Social Security.  I went into their office and they even showed me on the computer screen that I was "F" and told me the problem was on Medicare's end.  I would call them and they would insist the problem was on Social Security's side.

I can't even remember how many phone calls it took until a wonderful woman at Medicare finally dug into it, found the problem and fixed it.  It took her well over an hour!

I fear that now I'm going for round 2.  Government bureaucracy and computers, it's a marriage made in HELL!!!  Which reminded me of this song from "A Star is Born (1976)".  The lyric video is very fun!

"Venus as a Boy" by Bjork

I was listening to "Chet's Cassettes" on KCQN just a few minutes ago and he played this song.  I had to laugh when he was introducing it and he said: "it's like a bubble bath for your ears".  LOL!

This has always been one of my favorite Bjork songs!  When I hear songs like this now, I always think "Hmmm... funny!  I wonder...  Venus as a BOY...".

"A Girl Like You" by The Black Keys

Update 11-Jun-2017: I originally posted the original version by Edwyn Collins for this date, but then discovered it was a duplicate of my post for 8-Jun-2012.  But I found this awesome cover by The Black Keys so that will work!

"Come Together" by Echosmith

w00t!  I finally got the sound working on my laptop again!! I switched from Ubuntu 14.04 to Lubuntu 14.04 last August and the sound has never worked since.  I did a clean install of Lubuntu 15.10 on March 23rd but the sound still didn't work.  I added the Pulse Audio package and it still didn't work until now.  I guess maybe it needed to be rebooted...

Anyway, this is the song I played to test it and it worked!!  I found this originally when searching for The Beatles son by the same name and since I love "Cool Kids" I was intrigued.

"The Man Behind the Red Balloon" by Noel Harrison

Update 22-Feb-2017: I fixed the YouTube link so that it starts the video at the point where this song starts at 1:20:40.

As an April Fools joke I thought I would post "I'm a Man" by Chicago and write a fake post about how I changed my mind about being a woman.  Maybe even suggest it was a "choice".  Then tomorrow I planned to post "I Am Woman" and say "April Fools!".

I CAN"T DO IT!  I can't even put it out there as joke!  That just feels wrong, Wrong, WRONG.  If someone took that out of context they would get the completely the wrong idea.  I can't suggest something so VERY INCORRECT!!

THIS WAS NOT A CHOICE and anyone who thinks or says that is DEAD WRONG!  I was *ALWAYS* a girl/woman inside.  As early as kindergarten the other children recognized it and said I was "girly".  How can any rational person think I made a "choice" at age 5 or 6 that I wanted to be a girl? Duh!

Because I was bullied for being "girly", "a sissy boy", etc. the actual "choice" I was forced to make was to avoid doing anything that appeared even remotely feminine, even if I desperately wanted to do "girl" things.  Not that that was very successful.  I was still ridiculed and bullied throughout grade school, junior high and high school for being a "sissy", "homo", "fag" and so on...

So I have been trying to think of another song to post today and this song came to mind.  It sorta works in several ways.  It's about a facade isn't it?  I was more like "the woman behind the male balloon", but "don't touch me I'll shatter and break" seems right.

Anyway, it appears that this song is obscure enough that there are no videos of it, by itself on YouTube.  This link goes to the point where this song starts in the reel-to-reel video I made on YouTube:
