"Standard White Jesus" by Timbuk 3

How much of this plastic JUNK will I find on the sidewalk in a few months?

A few of the DVD's I've watched recently have religious (Christianity) undertones and I've found it very disturbing.  The misogyny is extremely upsetting and in the movie "Breach" it really freaked me out!  How can anybody have beliefs that insane?

Anyway, this song popped into my head this morning.  They really nailed it in this song:

Bow down to the standard white Jesus on the cross
and read the letters that children write to the standard white Santa Claus
They want flash, something awesome
Somethin' with a little kick,
Somethin' semi-automatic just might just do the trick

They want weapons to arm themselves against every childhood fear
They want rockets to fly up to heaven and get the hell outta here

I like their discussion about it in the MTV video.

"Way Down We Go" by Kaleo

I just finished watching the "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" video last night.  I had never perceived how incredibly gorgeous and sexy Elizabeth Taylor was until I watched that video.  I couldn't take my eyes off of her.

Then I saw the "Radio Utopia" video for this song!  I so want to look as hot as the woman in that video!!  And I just love the feeling of this song...

"I Really Want You to Hate Me" by Meg Meyers

Need to remember to take a pic before they are worn

Disclaimer: I DO NOT want anybody to hate me and I DO NOT want to die!!  :)

When I came out of Smith's tonight a woman came up to me and said her hands were cold (it was freezing), I agreed to give her a ride home.  On the way back home I decided it would be nice to stop in the Sun Trapp and have a quick adult beverage.  I finally figured out a way I could take a picture of my own fingernails!  :)

I know this is a VERY weird selection for Christmas Eve!  I don't know why this song was resonating with me today, but it did.  I played it many times.  I'm worried I'm going to wear this record out.

"Feather" by Meg Meyers

We had to interrupt the Christmas music this morning.  We are feeling very edgy again.  I took the Kacey record off the turntable and dug out the Meg Meyers album again.  I've played this song over and over and over while I made breakfast and ate.

And with these broken wings take me higher...

"Kill Of The Night" by Gin Wigmore

This was on the monitor in Mindy Pack's studio today
This slide was on the monitor when I walked into Mindy Pack's studio for my session today.  I know it was magic that the slide with me in it was on the screen when I walked in.  It was fun to see it!  The Equality Utah Allies Dinner was so much FUN!!!

I had so much fun today singing Christmas songs.  Mindy said it was funny seeing someone that looks like I do singing that low like Bing Crosby.  We agreed it would be fun for me to dress up really sexy, pretty and then get up and sing like Bing.

Anyway, this video popped up in the "Suggested Videos" while I was fooling around with the Petty Bitches video (see my post for 16-Dec-2017), I love it!

"The Bell That Couldn't Jingle" by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass

SueZQ's sister texted these pictures to her today.  Too funny!!

I was listening to the Herb Alpert Christmas album this morning and I still think it is one of the best Christmas albums ever.  I like both this version and the Burt Bacharach version on the A&M "Something Festive" various artists album.

So I'm listening to the version in "TheNewFormat" channel (Burt Bacharach's official channel) and I heard a ding and thought I must have gotten a text on my phone.  Then later in the song I heard another ding and thought I must have gotten another text.  No texts were on my phone.

I played The New Format version again and then the original album and realized they have added a ding after the line "then Jack Frost froze a teardrop". They have also added a cymbal in there too.  Too funny!!

I can't remember exactly what song I was thinking when I started this post.  I'm going to post another Meg Meyers song from the "Sorry" album.  I so love this album.  I've played it over and over and over.  It feels so right with the mood I've been in lately.

"Red Dress" by Magic!

More signs from the Bears Ears protest yesterday

#RespectNativeTribes
#KeepPublicLandsInPublicHands

Some more magic happened to me today!  I went to the UPS Customer Center to drop off a package and the wonderful ladies were talking to me about my red coat.  They commented that it was perfect timing because the "Red Dress" song was playing at that moment.

I went back out to my car and I thought "I should find out what this Red Dress song is", so I went back in and they told me it was this song.  I *LOVE* IT!!

"Make A Shadow" by Meg Myers

From the Bear's Ears rally today

I *LOVE* the Deaththrows of the Patriarchy sign :)

#StandWithBearsEars

I was so frozen after 2 hours in the cold at the rally.  I was shaking so badly that I could barely walk back to my car.  I went into the Alchemy Coffee near where I parked my car to get some coffee and warm up.

I didn't have the sense to get a lid, but since it was half gone by the time I got back to my car I thought it would be okay.  Ha ha ha ha!!  Within seconds it slipped out of my right hand and spilled all over me and my newly cleaned car.  (There are so many fun features of MS!)  Thankfully, I had been using the cup of coffee to warm my frozen hands and by that point the coffee was just barely warm.

I was way, Way, WAY stressed out  this afternoon so Sue and I went over to the Center theater so I could escape reality for a while and de-stress.  We saw the film  "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri".  It was certainly a "dark comedy" but it was wonderful, we loved it.

They used the song "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" in the film and I thought I would use it for my song today.  But I see now I posted it last year on 2-Aug-2016.

So I'm going to drop back to this song which I listened to over and over this morning.  I absolutely love this Meg Meyers album.

"Sorry" by Meg Meyers

I ordered this Meg Meyers album over a month ago and I have had a terrible time finding time to pick it up.  I finally did last week and I played it for the first time today.

I *LOVE* IT!  It's pretty dark but it really fits my mood.  I've been worrying that I've messed up a wonderful relationship that has started.  So this song feels right today.

"Paper Cup" by The 5th Dimension

This song just popped in my head this morning.  "Life is looking up!"

Almost everybody was talking about the man that wrote the bathroom bill in Virgina getting beaten by a trans-woman.  That is one of the most awesome things ever!!

#KarmaIsABitch

"Sweetheart Serenade" by Jerry Murad´s Harmonicats

The tune I have been trying to figure out for a year or two
Update 31-Jan-2019: I found the post where I was talking about searing for this song, it was 7-Jul-2015.

A year or two ago the opening riff of this song popped into my head and I couldn't get it out.  I dug through all of my Harmonicats and The Three Suns albums looking for it, to no avail.  Then the other night I found it on that "KBOC archive #2" CD-R (see yesterday's post) and better yet Shazam was able to identify it.

"I Want to Go With You" by Jerry Vale

CD I created on this day 20 years ago
Update 23-Mar-2019: I originally had dated this post for October 18th, but then I found another song I wanted to post specifically for the 18th, so I moved this back one day since I had no post for the 17th.

I've mentioned several times before the reel-to-reel tapes Cliff Peterson (the original owner of the infamous Hi-Fi Shop in Ogden) gave to my grandpa Gus.  I later copied them to cassettes which I still have and these 2 CD's were my attempt to save them digitally.

I'm writing this post on 30-Jan-2019 after I dug a bunch of these old CD's out of the garage.  I Shazam'd some of the unknown songs on the CD the other night and it was able to identify the ones I wrote in red.  I've had this song stuck in my head since.

"Runnin' Back to Saskatoon" by The Guess Who

I was on a major downer today after reading that President Bat Shit Crazy was going to speak at an anti-LGBTQ extremist hate group event:

HumanRightsCoalition: http://www.hrc.org/blog/trump-pence-to-cozy-up-with-anti-lgbtq-extremists-at-hate-group-event

The song "Sour Suite" came on car stereo and it fit my mood perfectly.  I was going to post as my song for today, but I see I posted it on my old blog on 10-Mar-2013.  So this song was also on that USB memory stick and I listened to it several times, so I decided to post it for today.

"Like a Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan

I went with my friends Shell and Marz to the KRCL Movies Meet Music event tonight.  The film was Bob Dylan: No Direction Home and it was wonderful.  I learned so many things I didn't know about him.

I had no idea that the folk music people freaked out and booed him when he went electric.  It was really fascinating.  In the live video below you can hear somebody yell "Judas".

Anyway, it was funny to hear the guy on the organ in this song, talking about being an eighth note behind because he didn't know the chord progression and he had to wait to hear it before he played it.

"On Your Side" by The Veronicas

I was so excited to come across all of these music videos about Lesbians and girls loving girls.  This one the music jumped out at me and the video is absolutely wonderful!  I *LOVE* IT!!!

I started the car yesterday and I was greeted by my friend Talia Keys' voice on KRCL for their Radiothon.  (Also see my post for Monday.)  On my way to the Herriman Rec. Center, I decided to pull off the street and up my donation to KRCL.

When I called, Talia's partner Melahn answered the phone.  I was so happy to talk to Melahn and have her take my donation.  I was thinking afterwards what a great couple they are!

On the air Talia was talking about vinyl and how it's really old school but now new school.  She said her next album is going to be available on vinyl.  I'm so excited!

I love that she says that the way that girls fight is with magic and manifesting!  I totally believe in magic and that we can manifest changes!!

I can totally relate to this song.  I was always bullied for doing X "like a girl".  Now I'm proud to be a girl and I want to do EVERYTHING like a GIRL!!!  So, yeah, I'm definitely going to fight like a girl!

This was one of the BEST events EVER!!
I'm finishing this post a couple of years later, I'm so sad that I never completed it.  If I remember correctly we collected over $2,000 dollars to donate to the Utah Pride Center's Youth Suicide prevention.

The fact that is was kitty corner from the Mormon Churches "Penis Tower" was so awesome!!!  The church is just evil the way they cause so many young LGBTQ kids to commit suicide!

I played this album while laying in the sun this morning.  When the first beats of this song came on it was like magic.  This song is so exciting, so powerful!

This is yet another song that I am amazed I haven't posted before.  My favorite Bow Wow Wow song...   I even put this on that very first "Void Where Prohibited" CD-R I made back in the mid-90's.  Back when a blank CD-R cost almost $15.

I saw the local band Inside Job play this song at the Harmon's Rooftop event:

Unfortunately, I have not been able to find any videos from the event tonight.  I should have recorded it myself. DUH!

"Elenore Rigby" by Daphne Willis

One of the CD's I got at the Women's Red Rock Music Festival

The "Lost 80's Live" show was very nice last night.  But I sat there alone, my first dating attempt on OkCupid a fail.  I was thinking about "all the lonely people" on OkCupid, including myself...

Anyway, Daphne Willis TOTALLY fucking rocked "Elenore Rigby" at the Women's Red Rock Music Festival last month.  It was insane how she was rockin' this song!!!

Her website: https://www.daphnewillis.com/

After I bought Daphne's three CD's that Friday night after her performance, this was the first one I popped into the CD player.  I played it over and over the remainder of the time I was in Torrey and for a ways into my trip to St. George.

"Animal" by Berlin

I went to the Lost 80's Live show tonight at the Gallavan Plaza.  I rode Trax there to avoid having to deal with parking.  I sat down at the Trax station next to a couple of young people.  One of them said they loved my car and then told me they were Trans.

It is wonderful that I'm meeting all of these young transgender people recently!  They are all so happy to be out and being themselves.  It makes me so happy too, that they feel free enough to be their authentic selves!!

#TransIsBeautiful

It was a wonderful show, I had forgotten some of the songs by those bands.  I sat on one of the park benches (unfortunately alone) and it was so pleasant and the music was great.

The crowd went crazy when Berlin played this song...

"Sometimes" by Max Q

Yesterday at the Utah Women Unite director's meeting we were talking about the 5 types of Becky: http://www.theroot.com/the-five-types-of-becky-1798543210, I had never heart about "Becky" before.  I'm so out of the loop!  :(

Anyway, I was adding the Max Q song "Ghost of the Year to my "reel-to-reel playlist" and this song popped up.

I should note that Max Q was a band that had the late Michael Hutchence former lead singer of INXS.

Watching the "vinyl" video I was wishing I had the vinyl of this album!  But then I was totally drooling over the Dual turntable.  I so wish I had a Dual turntable of that vintage!!!!!!!

"The Rhythm Divine" by Yellow (feat. Shirley Bassey)

I went and saw Subrosa (https://subrosa.cc/bio/) as part of Crucial Fest last night.  They totally KICKED ASS!!!

I need to pick a favorite of theirs to post on my blog, for sure.  But I don't have time to figure that out right now.

I found a Shirley Bassey record when I was in St. George a couple of weeks ago.  I started playing it this morning and the first two songs I thought: "It's Shirley Bassey does the Carpenters".  I just couldn't get into it at all.  Shirley Bassey has a beautiful voice but it just doesn't sound right on those songs.

Anyway, I thought of this song that I have loved for years.  Such an amazing voice!

"Wonderin'" by Neil Young & The Shocking Pinks

A couple more shots of the old Plymouth Valiant

This poor thing looks like it's been rode hard and put up wet...
So pink cars remind me of this song, that I saw on MTV way back in the day.  I just loved this song and video!!!  Always one of my very favorites from MTV.  If I remember correctly there was a promo for MTV where they were giving away a pink Cadillac and it was related to this video.

"Pink Cadillac" by Natalie Cole

1963 Plymouth Valiant
I was driving out in South Salt Lake and driving past the street where my dear friend John Byer lived some 25 years ago, before he passed away.  I decided to drive past his old place and when I came around the corner from his place I saw this old very pink car.  Too funny!

I found a website that has photos of various models of Valiants (a Chrysler A-body):

I posted the Bruce Springsteen version of this song in my old Scott's blog back on 16-Feb-2015.  I thought now that I'm Rachel, I should post the version with a female vocal.

Note: a couple of years in the future I actually own a Plymouth myself.  It's a B-body, so larger.  I have to show off a picture of it.  It has some pink stripes on it ;)

I so *LOVE* this car!!!

You can see many more pictures of it in my blog posts in 2020.

"Englishman in New York" by Sting

Mariah and I saw this license plate yesterday and I had to laugh
This has always been one of my favorite Sting songs.  On the last night of my music class at Weber State College (then) the teacher had us bring in our favorite record album and play a song for the class.  This is the song I played.

When it got to the bridge the teacher got all excited and exclaimed that it was Jazz.  Our instructor had played with some of the big names in Jazz back in the 30's and 40's.

"Way of the World" by Max Q

This is yet another post I'm filling in almost two and a half years after I started it.  There is no way I could remember how my picking this song for today came about.

I have already posted the two other Max Q (Michael Hutchence) songs I really love, so it is definitely important to have this one included.

"Easy to Be Hard" by Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66

I have no memory of why I took this photo on 27-Aug-2017
I am finishing this post over two and a half years after I started it.  I have no idea why I took the above photo that day and no idea what reminded me of this song.  But I do love it.  And I would say this album ("Ye-Me-Le") is my favorite Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 album.

"I Drink Alone" by George Thorogood

Selfie in front of what used to be the Zephyr Club
I saw so many great artists and bands at the Zephyr Club!!  I remember going to see George Thorogood and the Destroyers at the Zephyr with my peeps from E&S.  That was such a great show and we had such a great time!!!  We probably had too much to drink, but it was sure FUN!!

I so loved the Zephyr, it was my "watering hole" in that era (the 90's).  I often went and drank there by myself.

I always thought the lyrics to this song were cool, like:  "... so I called up my pal Jack Daniels and his partner Jimmy Beam" and "...my pal Johnny Walker and his brothers Blackie and Red".
