"That's Old Fashioned" by The Everly Brothers

Note: As of today (28-May-2017) I have over 50 "draft" blog posts.  ("Draft" meaning posts I've started but haven't finished, so they aren't published yet.)  It makes things difficult because they don't appear in searches and I have to check dates more carefully.  So I've decided it would  be easier if I just publish them in their unfinished form and maybe a miracle with happen sometime and I can go back and fill in the details (photos, etc.) sometime in the future.

"What's Love Got to Do With It?" by Tina Turner

The downside to not finishing a post while I'm originally thinking about it.  I vaguely remember thinking about... relationships?  I don't know.  But this has always been one of my favorite Tina Turner songs and such a good question...

"Stand Back" by Stevie Nicks

Might as well post the original song!  I remember blasting this song on the stereo in my '74 Monte Carlo while laying under it repairing a transmission leak in the parking lot of Unisys.  It's always been my favorite Stevie Nicks song.

A funny thing about that incident, there was a trail of transmission fluid from around 7th North and Redwood Rd. (where the leak blew) to the Unisys parking lot that was visible for months afterwards.

"Stereo Flo" by DADA Obernik & Harris

This song turned up yesterday while I was searching for that Dada song.  I just love this, I've listened to it over and over.  I haven't been able to find out much about the band.  Here is the Wikipedia page for Matt Schwartz.

I can't explain why I get this feeling that Sam Obernik might be transgender.  I don't have any idea why I would get that idea.  I've been trying to figure out why I even care.  It shouldn't even matter, she is a beautiful woman and I should just leave it at that!  I guess it always feels good to find someone else like yourself.  You feel less alone :)

This video for Black Market Labs has shown up several times lately.  I love that it shows women defying the "rules".  I don't know if that is just a theme for the video or the actual product.  I'll have to keep an eye on it.

"Who You Are" by Dada

Just the phrase "who you are" popped into my head last night and again this morning.  I could just hear that one snippet in my head but nothing else.  For the life of me I couldn't remember who it was.  Several things turned up on YouTube but not it.  Finally found it in the, now defunct, KCQN database.  I love the upside-down cow in the logo now :)

"Jig of Life" by Kate Bush

I listened to side 2 of Kate Bush's "Hounds of Love" album, aka "The Ninth Wave".  I had forgotten that I had a copy of this album on marble vinyl, it was a delight when I pulled it out of the sleeve and saw it.

"Jig of Life" always reminds me of my friends Rob and Connie.  They are into folk music and I put this on a "mix tape" for them years ago.  I've always loved the "I put this moment... here" part of this song.  And the lines:

This moment time
It doesn't belong to you
It belongs to me

The fan video is one of the most extraordinary videos I've ever seen.  I got chills watching it!

"King of the Road" by Roger Miller

Another song that was on the "Happy Father's Day" CD that I mentioned yesterday.  I remember how big this song was when it came out.  It seemed like everybody was singing it.

"Hey Good Lookin' " by Hank Williams

I found an old "Happy Father's Day" CD-R I made for my dad 15 years ago and was listening to it in the car today.  This song is so much fun!

I was listening to the "Barry" album and this song came on.  I've always thought this song was great fun.  I love Lily Tomlin's Ernestine snort in the song.

"Maybe Maybe" by a-Ha

"The Living Daylights" came on the stereo in Carri's car today, what an awesome song.  But since I already posted it back on 25-Apr-2012 I decided to post another favorite from their second album.

"Early Morning Strangers" by Barry Manilow

Listening to the "Barry Manilow II" album this morning and I can't remember if I remember this song or not.  But anyway I like it. Interesting that Hal David co-wrote it.  He wrote such great lyrics.

Apparently Dionne Warwick also did a version of this song, but I can't find an actual version of it on YouTube.

"I Hear You Knocking" by Dave Edmunds

Several weeks ago I was thanking my therapist for helping me discover Miss Divine and she said "I just knocked on the door, you're the one who answered it.".  I thought that was a cool way of putting it.  I was think this morning how happy I am that she knocked and it reminded me of this song.

"Becoming a Nun" by Vanessa Daou

I've loved this song since I first heard it.  I was thinking this morning about the verse:

I think I can live without it
Love with it's pumping blood
Sex with it's messy hungers
Men with their peacock strut

"My Love Is Too Much" by Vanessa Daou

I was talking to Carri about men not understanding men and a great line from this song (poem) came to mind: "red needs that telephone from foreign countries".  That really sums it up.  I love it!!

"I Refuse" by Hue and Cry

I've loved this song for years but, in listening to it now, I'm not sure what it is trying to say.  "You'll always be just a little girl" and "your destiny"...?  I really need to write out the lyrics and analyzed them.  Don't have time right now... :(

I'm wondering if it is saying "I refuse" to fill the traditional gender roles?

#DraftPost

The words are slightly different in the various videos.  I feel even more this is about gender roles...

"The Low Spark Of High-Heeled Boys" by Traffic

Found an old CD-R that I recorded around 20 years ago (1995-1996) titled "The Best of KTOU" which was a great radio station that I first heard a bunch of music that I had overlooked.

I love some of the lines in this song like:

If you had just a minute to breathe and they granted you one final wish
Would you ask for something like another chance?
and:

If I gave you everything that I owned and asked for nothing in return
Would you do the same for me as I would for you?
Or take me for a ride, and strip me of everything including my pride

"Same as You" by Scott Henderson

I'm making this post one year in the future as a way of filling in 2016.  This song is related to my post for 8-May-2017, in that it was on the same album.

I heard this song when I was helping my friend Rob run the transmitter that send the audio from the Dead Goat Saloon over to KRCL for the Blue Devil's Blues Review show.

We heard this song come over and got a real kick out of this verse:

Got a bad libido
Always in the groove
Just get me all excited
I hop on anythang that moves

I didn't perceive the song was about a dog, until I bought the album "Dog Party" and figured out most of the songs on the album were about dogs.

"Name" by Goo Goo Dolls

Court order changing my name and gender

The last year, since I started living full-time as a woman: Rachel, has absolutely been the best year of my life.  I had no idea, before, it was even possible to be this happy.

I couldn't think of a celebration song that fit for today and I ahven't already posted to my blog.  Then I remembered this song, I think my favorite Goo Goo dolls song.

"Elenore Rigby" by The Beatles

I was looking at the Plenty of Fish website with my BFF tonight and I couldn't help thinking "look at all the lonely people".  This song of course popped into my head.

This was always a Beatles favorite.  I remember playing it over and over when I was a kid.

I have to say WTF there are no good videos of "Elenore Rigby" on YouTube.  The Digitally Remastered one sounds like shit to me!  Really!?!  I hope nobody thinks that is an improvement over the original vinyl record.  I would take it over this nasty sounding thing any day.

Actually, I guess the Paul McCartney version is a pretty good version.  Fairly close to the original.

"Clean" by Depeche Mode

My favorite song from the "Violator" album.  While listening to it this morning I realized the lyrics are pretty appropriate for me at this point: "I've broken my fall, put an end to it all. I've changed my routine."  April was a crazy month, I feel like I'm stronger now having been through it.
