"A Rose In the Wind" by Anggun

Sigh!!!!  MS can be so frustrating sometimes...  a lot of the time.  I make mistakes and it just consumes so much time doing error correction.  It is incredibly frustrating!!

This blog post has just been one fuck up after another.  After all the other fooling around (see below) I discovered I already posted "Secret of the Sea" back on 27-Jan-2016.

So here is another wonderful Anggun song I love:

Update 7-Jul-2018:

I found a draft post for May 29th for "Dear God" by XTC.  I had already posted it in my old (pre-transition) blog on 10-Jun-2012 so my intent was to move it to this blog.  At this point I still have over 50 unfinished draft posts, so there is no way I have time to fool around moving a post from my old blog.

But then I notice there were two posts for 30-May-2017 so I'm moving this one to the 29th.

"Angry Chair" by Alice in Chains

I could've sworn I finished writing this post a few days ago (I'm way behind again, I'm finishing this on 11-Jun-2017).

Anyway, on 27-May-2017, I was very angry about too many people still not accepting us (transgender people).  This bad attitude kills!

Anyway, I thought the photo of River's high heels looked very similar to my newer pair of red high heels.  I wonder if we had the same pair of shoes...?

"Everything I Own" by Bread

Last night we had a vigil, here in Salt Lake City, for River.  Mother Earth was crying along with the rest of us.  But it was still a wonderful ceremony, to celebrate such a beautiful young woman.  A beautiful life, a beautiful soul!  Such a tragic loss!  Another UNNECESSARY tragic loss!  :(

I have been thinking about it and I believe I would give up everything I own, if it would bring her back.  I would miss my records A LOT, but it would absolutely be worth it.  She was only 22!  She had a lifetime ahead of her.

"Out There" by Swing Out Sister

River -

It hurts me so much that you are no longer here on this Earth with us.  Where so many of us could and would have enjoyed your company, love and beauty for many more years.

I know you are "Out There" somewhere in a better place, where you can be your true self without anyone judging you.  Away from people doing a double-take when they see you.  No more getting the evil eye because you look slightly different than people are used to.

Until we meet again, please know you will always be in my heart!

All my love,
   -Rachel

I've been listening to several of my very favorite Swing Out Sister songs recently and I've been thinking about how they have been able to capture my emotions and feelings better than any other musical artist or group ever.

It's like Corinne and Andy have the unique ability to tune into my inner soul and bring it out into the light.  Their wonderful music reflects, so well, what I feel inside!

Off the top of my head, I can't think of a single song of theirs I don't like.  I'm not sure I can say that about any other artist or group.  I love The Beatles, but there are a few songs of theirs that suck.

I think I can even safely say something like 80-90% of their music is among my favorite music ever.

Corinne and Andy: thanks again for all the beautiful, soul soothing music you have brought into my life.  I can never express what a difference you have made in my life.  You have lifted me up!  You carried me through!  I love you!

Anyway, this was the perfect song for today!  It is absolutely beautiful!   I have been thinking about River's spirit being "Out There", in peace and she is happy now.

"Only Women Bleed" by Alice Cooper

AWESOME!  I *LOVE* IT!!

I'm a bit disappointed that they changed the "Bi Dyke Poly Trans" march this year.  I understand it is "The Resistance" this year, that's cool too!

My tank tops from the last 2 years.

Alice Cooper's "How You Gonna See Me Now?" popped into my head this morning and that reminded me of this song.  It's always been one of my favorites, I still have the 45 RPM single.

This is another of those songs where I could always totally relate to the woman in the song.

"For All We Know" by Carpenters

I've been thinking and crying a lot about River and Tyler.  Such a beautiful young couple!

In listening to this song it breaks my heart, that they will never have the chance to "have a lifetime to share".  Just listening to this song while I'm writing this makes me cry.

Why, why, WHY can't people just accept us for who we are?  We are all human!  We all deserve understanding, love and compassion!

In the comments for the "TV" (Andy Williams Show) video, Ned Nickerson mentions that Karen was only 20 at that time.  River was only 2 years older than that, when her life was cut short.  That is terribly SAD!

"Murder by Numbers" by The Police

This was a funny little thing.  I was thinking about this song earlier this morning and then I was watching last nights Saturday Night Live videos and in this skit the title of the movie they are making was "Murder by Numbers" so I decided I should post it for my song today.

This was the B-side to the "Every Breath You Take" single and was also on the "Syncronicity" CD, but not the vinyl.

I should note that the track on the CD was terrible quality in that it was recorded down it the mud, very bad when all you are working with only 16 bits.  The audio in the "Topic" video is the 2003 remaster, hopefully better quality.

"High Enough" by K. Flay

I was on a panel last night at a fund raiser for Planned Parenthood
it was uplifting after the bad news yesterday.

This is just some of the beautiful art that was on display:

And so many of my friends were there:

Hillary, Cat and Chris

Just so many amazing people were there...

All the love that was in that room was just incredible.  The people there lifted me up so much. I get "high enough" from all the love I feel from all of my amazing and wonderful friends.

Each of the members of the panel answered the following questions related to femininity:

1. What does femininity mean to you?

2. What is a stereotype of femininity you would like to break?

3. What are some challenges you have faced in dealing with femininity?

4. What are some advantages to femininity?

5. If you could tell your 12 year old self a message, what would it be?

6. Do you feel that femininity is gender biased?

7. Do you feel there needs to be a balance between masculinity and femininity?

8. How do you feel women rights and femininity are tied into one another?

9. What are some steps people can take to get in touch with their femininity?

10. In times of difficulty, who or what did you turn to?

I hope that I presented a good perspective on femininity from a transgender woman's perspective.

I have been crying a lot this afternoon, since I heard about this terrible thing.  I am getting really tired of this shit!  This kind of thing has to STOP!

People need to stop being so...  I don't know...  unaccepting...  judgmental...  close minded...  mean...  bullies...  nasty...  jerks...  assholes...  haters!!

"Will The Circle Be Unbroken" by Johnny Cash & The Carter Family

Another one from the #AmericanEpic the other night.  See yesterday's post.

I'm frustrated by the hatred, especially from religious people.  My thinking is that Christians are supposed to be about love.  Jesus was about love.  Isn't there some commandment about "Love thy neighbor"?

How about this religious people: I'll do me and you do you!

"The Blues Overtook Me" by Charlie Musselwhite

We were watching "American Epic" on PBSKUED and it was AWESOME!  I loved it!!  The music was so wonderful and amazing!  And it was so cool seeing how they recorded and made all those old 78 RPM records!

Anyway Charlie Musselwhite was on there talking about Memphis.  Seeing him reminded me I need to post more of his songs.  This is the first track from his "Ace of Harps" album.  What a great album!

"The Stranger" by Billy Joel

Absolutely unbelievable that we haven't posted this song before.  We have considered this our favorite Billy Joel song since it came out.  We still remember hearing this song on then radio while driving to Sperry Univac.

We were describing 2017 to someone this morning, as being hit by a the stream from a fire hose.  We have been envisioning that scene, over and over in our mind since then.  So I thought I would post a song somehow related to standing in the gush from a fire hose.  I thought about a song about being on fire but we've already posted all of the songs like "I'm On Fire", that I can think of.

"We Didn't Start the Fire" by Billy Joel popped into my head, but that wasn't quite what I was looking for.  But then I realized we have never posted this song and I just couldn't resist, considering the topic of this song.  :)

"Too Many Gittars" by Scott Henderson

This is a follow up to yesterday's post. I was thinking about this song while I was sittinhg on Hillary's couch.  It was so AWESOME the jammin' that went on yesterday afternoon!  Seriously, can you ever have too many gittars?  LOL!  Certainly not yesterday!

I filled in my post for one year ago (8-May-2016) with another song from Scott Henderson's "Dog Party" album.  I told the story about how I discovered that album while helping transmit the audio from the The Dead Goat Saloon

"House of the Rising Sun" by Billy Strange

The Utah Women Unite directors meeting was canceled this morning, so I went and had breakfast with Hillary at City Cakes.  Then I went over to her house, hung out on her couch and grooved to her and some of her friends jammin' for a couple of hours.  I had some nasty (MS) fatigue, so I pretty much did the couch potato thing.

It was funny I was thinking about this (Billy Strange) version of this song and pondered requesting it, but didn't.  They must have read my mind, because they played it just as I was getting ready to leave, so I hung out a few more minutes to hear all of it.  It was as wonderful note to leave on.

I stopped into Home Depot on the way home and the nasty fatigue came back.  I felt like death warmed over the rest of the afternoon and I still feel like hell.  :(

"Riders in the Sky" by Sons of the Pioneers

I dug out this old record to listen to while we were having lunch with our friends Rob and Connie.  Such a great album, my family loved this record, we listened to it over and over.

I noticed this is one of the records I put a date stamp on.  My idea was to keep track of when I bought each record.  But all of these old albums I didn't know when they were purchased originally, so I stamped them all with this date: Mar 11, 1967.  Just over 50 years ago.  Half a Century!!  Wow!!!

Things like this always make me stop and think.  What would I have thought if I had been able to look 50 years into the future and found that I was living very happily as a woman!

I love all of the things that the record companies came up with to entice people to buy records.  "Miracle Surface(R)... your assurance of greatly enhanced listening pleasure." and "Miracle Surface(R) record grooves contain the anti-static agent 317X...".   Whoooo! Too funny!!

"Come with Me Now" by KONGOS

Walk, come with me now.  I'm gonna show you how...

Afraid to lose control
Caught up in this world
I've wasted time
I've wasted breath
I think I've thought myself to death

I was born without this fear
Now only this seems clear
I need to move, I need to fight
I need to lose myself tonight
