"At Last" by Etta James

This song has popped up many times while I have been searching for the songs the last week or two.  And then I noticed it was also in the track listing for the "Artist's Choice: Joni Mitchell" CD that I talked about in yesterday's post, I decided it was time.  I've thought about posting it many times before, I just kept forgetting.

"Lonely Avenue" by Ray Charles

I don't remember knowing this Ray Charles' song until I heard it on the "Artist's Choice: Joni Mitchell" CD.  Which I first mentioned in my (Scott's) third blog post, over 5 years ago.

I love all of Joni Mitchel's picks for her favorite songs.  (I still don't think I could ever narrow my list down to 18 songs.)  Anyway, I definitely share this one with Joni...

"I Got a Woman" by Ray Charles

Rosie the Riveter (seriously, who wouldn't know that?)

Whoa!  Hold it right there, BUCKO!  A woman's place is any dammed place SHE wants to be!!!  LOL!

I thought I would post a couple of my other Ray Charles favorites.  But I forgot about the super-extra annoying line "she knows a woman's place is right there in her home"... NOT!!

So yeah, like the "Wives and Lovers" song that I posted back in July, this is yet another song from that era when misogyny was rampant.

Anyway, I first heard this song on a tape my friend Randy made for me from the radio program "The History of Rock & Roll" back around 1978, if I remember correctly.

"Hit the Road Jack" by Ray Charles

Oh yeah, here we are AGAIN!... I realized after yesterday's post I've never posted the original song.  Sigh!!!

This song sticks in my mind because WAY back in the 60's when I was first a member of the Columbia Record Club I received a Ray Charles album because I forgot to return the stupid card telling them not to send it.

This is the song that really stood out for me on that album and it has remained a top favorite all these years...

"Lisa" by Burt Bacharach

This song came on my MP3 player this afternoon and, once again, I can't believe I haven't posted this before.  I love the saxophone and how lonely the music and lyrics are.  "Beautiful girls have broken hearts..."

"Pretty Lady" by Lighthouse

It's funny, when I was wearing my wig  I had people, complete strangers, come up to me all the time and tell me I was "beautiful" or "gorgeous".   I was in the McDonalds in WalMart on 13th South and a gentleman said "I don't mean anything by this, but you are so beautiful".

I rarely get that now, I do have people who look at my driver's license say "you look so pretty in your driver's license picture".  Feels a little weird, but I suppose it's because having a nice driver's license photo is such a rarity.

Anyway, I want to be a "pretty lady" and it would be nice to be "loved every morning, every day, every night"...

"Baby I Love Your Way" by Peter Frampton

Update 23-Jun-2017:

I discovered today that my original post was a duplicate, I had already posted "I Want You to Want Me" on 5-Dec-2015.  I posted a Peter Frampton song for today (23-Jun-2017), I thought I would replace the original post with another Frampton favorite...

"Am I the Same Girl" by Swing Out Sister

I agree!  Life is too short to wear boring clothes!!!  I absolutely love that white dress with the black stripes!  Anyway, SueZQ and I were in Bountiful (Utah) and I spotted the Twirl Dress Boutique.  I couldn't resist taking a picture...

I can't remember why I didn't just post a Swing Out Sister song yesterday... not thinking clearly I guess  :(

Anyway, I'm not sure why I've always related to this song.  Apart from the fact I know now that I have always been a girl.  I wish I had been that girl that you used to know...  actually I guess I AM the same girl you used to know, I just look different.  Yes I am!  Yes I AM!

I don't think I've ever seen the official video for this song before, it's really cool!  Love the horns and Corinne's dress.

So, yeah, stop and look me over...

"Runnin' Down A Dream" by Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers

Heard this on the radio tonight.  Speaking of the radio, spent the day hooking up a couple of the KCQN computers at the new station, to allow loading the music to be transferred.  Murphy's Law was in full force, everything went wrong.  We finally got it working but, it is quite the hack.

Sept. 21st is another one of those days that have some sort of convergence or something.  Always seem to be eventful things happening.  In any case happy birthday to Corinne Drewery!

"Sail on Sailor" by The Beach Boys

I seem to remember having and loving 3 of the Beach Boys later 45 RPM singles.  This is the only one I can remember right now.  I need to dig those out and see what the other gems were too...

Such amazing lyrics to this song!

"Time and Love" by The 5th Dimension

Part of the Misty K. Snow Team at the Provo Pride Festival

I've included another photo from the Provo Pride Festival (see my post for 17-Sep-2016).  It was wonderful!  Plenty of love was in the air!  I saw so many of my delightful friends there as well.

It is so amazing that there is such an incredible event in Provo, Utah!!

I played the "Loves Lines, Angles and Rhymes" record several times while I was cleaning the kitchen tonight.  Wonderful album!

I'm a little annoyed by the lyrics:

Now a woman is a fighter
Whether white or African
A woman is a woman inside
Has miracles for her man

I don't know, something about that bugs me.  Like a woman's value is based on "her man"?  Anyway, I like the song, even if it's quasi-religious.  There's the patriarchy, right there...  :(

"Nature Boy" by Nat King Cole

It was awesome at the Provo Pride Festival today.  So many wonderful people came by the Misty K. Snow booth.  I love the picture above!

I give!  I guess I'm going to keep finding songs that I haven't thought to post before.  I realized when I posted "Route 66" last week, I had omitted this song.

This song feels epic to me.  It has turned up several times in my life and I think "WOW!... oh yeah, what a great song!".

I don't care for the "Topic" version.  I'm not sure why, it doesn't sound quite right to me... too intense?  I wonder if they compressed it?  The "78 RPM" version is the version I love and remember.

"Cry Me a River" by Dianna Krall

Yet another song I'm surprised I haven't posted before.  Will this ever end?  I remember playing this on the jukebox in the La Frontera (or was it La Puente?) in Bountiful there on 500 S.   When it was it occupied the building that previously housed Robintino's Pizza decades ago.

Anyway, I'm certain that I played this song every single time we went there.  The only thing I can't seem to remember is whether the jukebox played 45's or CD's...

"Route 66" by Depeche Mode

Since the Cadillac Ranch appears in the one video for this song (at about time 2:38), I decided to include my photos of our visit there.

I remember thinking how cool it was when Depeche Mode came out with this song.  I was still  working in the Graphics Workstation department at Evans & Sutherland.  I remember talking to my friend John Byer about it and he commented that somebody (I can't remember who, probably the composer?) was rolling over in their grave.

Anyway, I haven't heard some of these versions before, they are awesome!  I love the video with the woman walking...

"Route 66" by Jazz Lag

We stopped in Tucumacri, New Mexico and hung out for a while.  Since the freeway bypassed the town, obviously, many of the old businesses went under without all of the Route 66 traffic.  But it was fun!

Here's another awesome version of Route 66 that popped up on YouTube  yesterday.

"Route 66" by Nat King Cole

After yesterday's post I realized I have never posted this song!  That's ludicrous, this is such an epic song.  I've always had a fascination, obsession even, with Route 66.

I have signs (which I still need to hang on my wall)!  I got one of my favorite T-shirts at the Route at museum, when SueZQ and I followed the Route 66 route (mostly freeway now) driving back from Memphis last year.

"Driving Away From Home" by It's Immaterial

Here's an amazing song that I always thought was so cool.  I love the references to pop culture:
The references are in the 9:49 version, I don't know what the name of that version is.

I love the title of the 12" version too: "Wicked Weather for Walking"!

"A Beautiful Morning" by The Rascals

Every morning is a beautiful morning...

I notice in the video with the 45 the label says "Compatible Mono & Stereo".  I don't think I've noticed that on a record label before, since they were all compatible.  I have to wonder if, in the beginning, the industry didn't claim you had to have a stereo phonograph to play stereo records in order to sell more stereo phonographs?

The live versions are various incarnations of the "Rascals" band.

"Early In the Morning" by Harry Nilsson

I so HATE 3 A.M. it is like the most evil time of day!  When I wake up and see it's around 3 A.M. because I know I'm probably screwed!!

"Imagine" by Petula Clark

I had a really good day today (the polar opposite of yesterday).  I even got a bit of a run in at the Northwest Rec. Center.

I was listening to Petula Clark's "These are My Songs" album while I was laying in the sun tonight and I really enjoyed this song.

Note: I can't find a video on YouTube with this individual song.  This video is the entire first side of the vinyl album.  You can to to time 3:08 to hear this song.

YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4UcP2k4LqQ

There is also a song on this album that I feel is kinda weird (like I've mentioned here).  Go to time 14:14 to hear "On the Path to Glory".
