"Pearls" by Sade

I was looking through my tweets from the last few days and it's frightening how much nastiness is coming from our new administration.  I thought of posting Sade's "Fear" song today.  But in checking my previous posts I posted it on July 21st of last year when I was worried about not being able wear high heels anymore.  Oh the good old days if that was all I had to worry about, sigh!

Anyway, this is another awesome song from Sade...

"Step Right Up" by Tom Waits

I've been listening to this old record I found at Savers a week or two ago.  It's cool that this album was part of the University of Utah Library at some point.  There's a date scribbled inside the cover: 12-13-79, almost 40 years ago.

I've played side 2 several times and pretty fine.  This song starts off side 2 and it's really fun.  I discovered when I looked it up on you tube that the version on this album is a shortened version, 2:54 long.  All the ones I see on YouTube are around 5:41, so they cut out about 3 minutes for the sampler record.

The live 1977 video recorded in West (that seems so weird now) Germany is so freakin' awesome, just so crazy cool man!  His voice is so awesome!  I've always loved the quote in the Tom Waits article on Wikipedia:

Waits has a distinctive voice, described by critic Daniel Durchholz as sounding like "it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car"

"... It makes excuses for lipstick on your collar."  LOL

"Kiss This Thing Goodbye" by Del Amitri

I've decided I have to just get these posts done.  I can't keep up with everything going on anymore. As of right now I have 34 "Drafts", I.E. posts I've started and not finished.  There is so much going on with President Psychopath.  All these videos, tweets...

Anyway, I watched this Bill Maher monologue and he said "It's day 7 in the war on facts."

"Quiet" by MILCK

Update 11-Mar-2017:  Added the "MILCK + Choir! of 1300 Can’t Keep Quiet!" video.

Oh my hell I hate 3 A.M.!  It is definitely the worst time of day!   But I ran across some videos by Samantha Bee that are hilarious and one of them had the I Can't Keep Quiet Choir singing this song and it is awesome!

Some of my favorite signs from the "Iconic Signs" video:

  • Resistance is NOT Futile!  #PussyGrabsBack
  • 90 Years a #NastyWoman
  • Melania: Blink twice if you want us to save you!
  • Hey Trump, you can't grab my pussy but you can suck my dick
  • You haven't seen NASTY YET!
  • Orange is the new WACK  (with Cheetos around WACK) #NotMyPresident
  • If I wanted the government in my womb I'd fuck a senator
  • (A picture of Trump grabbing the Statue of Libery's pussy)
  • Trump sandwich recipe: white bread, baloney, russian dressing, small pickle
There are so many good ones!  I love it, you gotta check it out!

Loved the bit about "four incredibly happy Mormons gang banging one piano": "relax bro you're 4 white Christian guys from Utah, things are going to be okay for you." and "by the way in the church of Latter Day Saints it is legal for a piano to have four husbands".

The sad part is that what she says at the end is true: "dress rehearsal is over guys, the tragedy has begun!  So, as the curtain goes up on Shit Show the Musical..."

"What's The Frequency, Kenneth?" by R.E.M.

My sleep has been... erratic this week.  Actually for a couple of weeks.  Had a lot of dreams last night...  maybe even more like nightmares.  I thought of the song "I Don't Sleep, I Dream", but it turns out I posted it almost 5 years ago on 26-Feb-2012.  But this is another of my favorites from the "Monster" album.

Trying to post from my phone for the first time. Heard this on SueZQ's playlist today.

Update 27-Jan-2017: Made a mess of this on my mobile.  In thinking about this song a day later, some days it's such a struggle not to let yourself down...

"The Best Thing" by Boom Crash Opera

I know I've said this in my blog before, but I can't say it enough: being a trans-woman IS the BEST THING that ever happened to ME!!!!!!!  I've found joy and happiness that I never thought possible.

I love the "Art" video, all of the colors are so pretty!  I swear that colors are more vivid now.  All of my senses seems more intense.  It is amazing!!

150 S. Main Street Salt Lake City

City Creek Salt Lake City

I wanted to go to the Women's March in Park City but the snow was so bad and I didn't have chains to go up Parley's Canyon.  I was slipping really bad just on surface streets in Salt Lake City.

But I think this is the start of a Revolution...

"Ready For Camarillo" by Ambrosia

I can't even think about what is happening today.  President Obama's farewell letter was in my inbox this morning and reading it made me cry.  How can we be going from one of the best presidents ever, to one who gives every indication of being the worst president ever?

I have never felt as close to a president as I feel to President Obama.  I've never written a President before, but I sent him a message a couple of weeks ago thanking him for being the first President to be inclusive of transgender people.  Every time he included Transgender when he was speaking, I felt validated.  That he recognized us as part of the United States.

I've been feeling frightened and depressed this morning.  I was thinking about this song and the lyrics:

I'm 'bout ready for Camarillo
My head is goin' fast
I'm like a ship out on the raging sea
That's losing it's mainmast

All these years I have wondered what Camarillo was, so I just looked it up on Wikipedia and I'm guessing it refers to Camarillo State Mental Hospital, that makes sense.

"In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" by Iron Butterfly

So many videos about the travesty that is about to happen this Friday.

I love the line in the Stephen Colbert video: "We're just 3 days away from Donald Trump's inauguration and... just 2 days away from all of the time travelers coming back to stop him."

YouTube (Stephen Colbert): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3xL8K74Tkw

I really like the points Jon Stewart makes in this discussion:

So I've been on a Iron Butterfly kick all week.  The last couple of days I've had this song stuck in my head.  Especially the run up riff on the organ.  Maybe that was part of the urge I had today to go and dig my MIDI keyboard out of the garage.

I remember back when this song came out everybody was so stoked, it was so cool to have a song that lasted like 17 minutes.  All the solos of each band member just groovin' and "doing their thing".

It was decades later when I found the story about how "In a Gadda da Vida" came to be.  For those that don't know, it was supposed to be "In the Garden of Eden" but I heard somewhere that Doug Ingle was so stoned when he was first singing it, he slurred the words and the stuck.  It doesn't describe it quite that way in the Wikipedia article:

Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida

Note that Lee Dorman passed away after the 2012 video, so that was their last performance with the original line up.

"Real Fright" by Iron Butterfly

Earlier tonight I finished watching the two part Frontline  story "The Divided States of America".  It was extremely painful!

Having to relive all of those tragic and painful moments of the last 8 years.  For example the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting (referred to as "Newtown" in the program).  All those children gunned and innocent people gunned down and NOT A SINGLE thing came out of it to prevent it from happening again and again and again...

And to add to the torture, they had all these sound bites from conservative talk radio.  I can't stand Rush Limbaugh, his voice just grates on me and the dumb ass shit he spews makes me sick.  And then there was Sarah Palin, sigh!

I can't see how President Drumpf* can possibly improve the situation, he has already unleashed the hatred, the racism and the sexism.  I'm getting depressed again about this whole mess... it is extremely frightening!

Anyway, this song is from one of my favorite albums.  As I mentioned in my post clear back on 9-October-2011, I'm guessing originally bought it around 1970 or 1971 without a sleeve and finally bought a legitimate copy at Smokey's Records in the 1990's:

The live version from 1967 (2 years before the album was released) has different words... I guess they were still working on it  :)

"Abraham, Martin and John" by Dion

I'm sure Abraham, Martin, John and Bobby are all turning over in their graves now, considering what is happening later this week.  So many people have said they cannot believe that we have taken such a huge step backwards.  Paige said after the election that this can't be it.  We can't have erased decades of progress and ended up back in that racist and sexist time, can we...?

"So Alive" by Love and Rockets

Genevra at Rock-n-Roll Camp for Womyn 4-Feb-2018

So I'm writing this post over a year in the future, still trying to fill in my missing posts.  This post will be the 1,000th song I've done in this (Rachel's) blog.

Genevra said in a text last night (28-May-2018) that she really likes Love and Rockets so that inspired this post.

I love the legs in this video!  I ended up in a band (FTP) at the Rock-n-Roll Camp for Womyn myself.  When Psarah introduced the band she introduced me as Rachel "Legs" Edwards.  Many people say I have great legs.  <blush>

"And When I Die" by Laura Nyro

I first heard this song on Blood, Sweat and Tears second (self-titled) album and it's always been one of my favorites.  I heard it the other day on SueZQ's "Awesome and Eclectic" playlist she has on a USB stick in the Prius.

Since I already posted the BS&T version back on 5-Dec-2012, I thought I would post this version by Laura Nyro.

"People Are People" by Depeche Mode

I was in Trader Joe's earlier this evening and this song came on the overhead PA system.  When I heard the first few notes I thought "oooh, Depeche Mode playing in store".   And when I realized it was this song, I started to think about how appropriate it is for the LGBTQ and especially the Transgender community.  (Transgender women of color have the highest murder rate in the LGBTQ community.)

As I've mentioned several times before in my blog I was bullied throughout K-12 for being "girly", "sissy", "fag", "homo", you know, the usual derogatory slurs.  Definitely something I share with many, if not most, transgender people.

I'm coming up on two years of living as a woman full time and I've had a wonderful reception.  People have just been wonderful in accepting me.  I can say absolutely that the vast majority of people have responded to me in friendly and amazing way.  I feel far more love that I ever had when I was unhappy and depressed most of the time.

The worst that has happened to me, so far, is some really sour looks.  That actually happened this morning while I was walking down the hall of the Elementary school.  I'm guessing maybe it was the hall monitor was looking at me with suspicion as we walked past each other in the hallway.

But being transgender, the reality that you could get beat up or killed just for being who you are, is always in the back of your mind.  Far too many of us experience ridicule, abuse and violence far too often.

And speaking of bullies, I found this Stephen Colbert video about Meryl Str Streep and our bully elect:

I started to make a Classic Country Christmas mix CD for my Dad, but when Christmas passed and it wasn't finished, I decided to record a couple of old Hank Thompson albums onto a CD.  I've found a couple of songs I hadn't heard before, that I really like.  This is the title track of his first album after switching labels to Warner Bros.

"Better Later Than Never" by Handful of Snowdrops

Last night I was helping Carri record some voice tracks for a demo for a "Newer Wave" show to give to 103.1 The Wave.  This is one of the songs from her demo that I love.

Can I just say what a pain in the ass computers are these days.  I took two laptops with me, thinking at least one of them would get the job done.  Not so!  In frustration I finally came back home and borrowed SueZQ's laptop.

However, I can't find a video for the on YouTube right now.  Their YouTube channel is here https://www.youtube.com/user/Utubernatural.  I found a place where you can buy a digital copy of the EP with this song:

"Changes" by David Bowie

After I had lunch with Wendy Jean yesterday, I popped into the Black Velvet Boutique (in Clearfield. Utah) to drop off a thank you for their support of the Genderevolution Conference again last year.

A beautiful and delightful woman named Katie was minding the store.  We were commiserating about what a nasty year 2016 was.  She explained her theory that David Bowie was the fabric that held The Universe together and since his passing, everything is coming undone.  Good theory! I like it!!!

Actually I need to back up a couple of days... um, okay... my bras haven't been feeling quite right lately, so I pulled out an older B-cup bra that I had purchased a while ago.  I put it on and was quite surprised by the fairly large air gap.

I don't remember how much of this I mentioned previously in my blog, but my hormones got jacked last summer and my male characteristics came back.  All the time spent doing hair removal was negated, my beard and other body hair I had eliminated came back.

I had been using a thinning hair treatment for over a year and was very pleased with the results.  I had even started going out without wearing something to cover the top of my head.  Much of it fell back out last summer.  My hairbrush looked like a furry animal  :(

Estrogen (Estridiol) has been amazing for me!  I know absolutely that my brain needs Estrogen to function correctly!*  I'm much more stable, less stressed and much less depressed since I started HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy).

But, then, last summer that fell apart too, I was all sorts of messed up mentally!  SueZQ said it was like Scott had returned.  SueZQ also confirmed that she had noticed my bald spot and beard had reappeared.

All of that was very disheartening.  I finally decided to permanently eliminate the grief with Testosterone.  Which, I feel, brought to light some transgender discrimination, but that is a story for another day...

Anyway, I found a gorgeous red and black corset at Black Velvet Boutique that I just had to have.  I was looking at myself in the mirror this morning, wearing it, and I love it!  It makes me feel beautiful and happy!

So even though my figure isn't as feminine as it was, I still *LOVE* who I am!  For me, being transgender IS the BEST THING that ever happened to me!!

I was thinking about all the changes over the past months, all the major changes over last few years and thought this was a good song for today :)

Well, this is turning out to be a much longer post than I had intended, I should wrap it up.  But, in watching the "Lyric" video I realized this song and especially the one verse is relevant for transgender people:

And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're going through

Damn!  Also note in the lyric video: I'm pretty sure it's "strange changes", not "strain".  Gotta love the "lyric" videos, LOL!

"Handbags and Gladrags" by Chase

I just love the entire self titled album by Chase.  Actually one of the first few albums I posted from clear back in the beginning of my blog on 18-Sep-2011.

Since I've been feeling old and tired the last few days and I feel like I look older too. :(   (2016 was so brutal!)

This morning I was thinking about one of the lines from this song: "Ever seen a young girl growing old, trying to make herself look right".

"She's Lost Control" by Joy Division

SueZQ and I went and saw Collateral Beauty last night and I loved it!  But it made me realize that I've lost it of late.  That was the first thing I noticed when I first started discovering Rachel, I also saw the beauty all around me.  2016 has been such a struggle (see my post from Dec. 31st) I think I've lost it.

In the movie the "Love" character talked about love connecting everything.  I realized that I don't feel connected to the world the same way I do at times (see my post from Jan. 31st last year).

Anyway, I heard this last week on 103.1 The Wave and decided I should post it.  Wow 1979 seems like a lifetime ago...

"All Dressed Up for the End of the World" by Promised Land

I really felt like getting dressed up yesterday afternoon.  I found this dress in a pile of clothes and I'd never found an occasion to wear it.  I put it on even though I had no real plan for going out.

After I put on my makeup I realized I was all dressed up with no place to go.  I thought about it for a while and decided since 2016 had been so... well, just see yesterday's post, I really should go at least have a drink to celebrate it's passing into history.

Anyway, while I was at The Sun Trapp I started thinking about all the people who have commented that Donald Trump may bring about the end of the world.  Or at least, as someone suggested on the Real-Time with Bill Maher show last year (see my post on August 5th), the end of civilization.  Which led me to think how I could be "All Dressed Up for the End of the World".

And, yeah, I drank way too much sending 2016 off into history...
