"Mr. Bojangles" by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

I remember how much I loved this song when it came out.  I played the shit out of that 45 RPM single.  The 45 has a really fun prologue.

"West End Girls" by Pet Shop Boys

Another song I can't believe I haven't posted before.  This is one of the seminal New Wave songs I remember from KCGL.  It's so hard to believe this was 30 years ago...

"Can't Find My Way Home" by Alana Davis

There was a link to this song from yesterday's song and I was curious if it was the same as the song of the same name by the band Torch Song that I posted on 12-June-2012 and it is.

Update: 18-June-2016:  unfortunately this appears to have disappeared off of YouTube, I can't seem to find it anywhere.  Turns out this is a much older song than I thought.  I've found some other versions of it:

"32 Flavors" - Alana Davis

An incredible song by Alana Davis, originally written and performed by Ani DeFranco.  This song has such great lyrics, some of my favorites:

"Cause someday you're gonna get hungry
And eat all of the words you just said"

"I'd never try to give my life meaning by demeaning you"

Oh hell, all of the lyrics are genius!  I think all the time "I am what I am".

Also let me send out a huge thanks to my BFF Stefanie for hooking me up with this CD in the first place along with so many others.  We have shared so much great music over the years.  Crazy to think it all started in the Sunshine Center laundromat some 20+ years ago.  Thank you for being an amazing, wonderful, incredible part of my life ever since.  XOXOXOXO

Another song I really like from one of the CDs that Wendy gave me.  UMG (Universal Music Group) currently has it blocked it in the US.  I used the Shazam app on my phone to get the title and artist from the CD.  Pretty cool!

"Go To Him" by Don Argo

It always blows my mind when I find super obscure songs like this one on YouTube.  But it's so cool!  I was almost certain it wouldn't show up.

I've had this song stuck in my head many times since I made that reel-to-reel tape for my brother (see my post from July 4th).  Specifically the line "so you see it's not fair to you, no it's not fair to me".

Interesting, I've never noticed this before, there are actually two slightly different lines, some times he sings "for it wouldn't be fair to you, wouldn't be fair to me".

It's really not fair for your companion to be scared for your safety much of the time...

"Anyone Who Had A Heart" by Dionne Warwick

I had never heard of Dionne Warwick, as far as I can remember, until I forgot to send back one of those cards to the Columbia Record Club and received a double album or her early hits (record club special edition).  It was a good accident because it had many great songs on it, that I grew to love. This is one of the songs I first heard on that album.

"Que Sera, Sera" by Doris Day

I was thinking about this song from my childhood this morning.  I remember playing the MGM 45 RPM single with the yellow label with black stripes.

"Beautiful" by Carole King

This song just popped into my head this morning and I realized how incredibly true it is.

Listening to it again while I'm creating this blog post I'm thinking "what great lyrics".  I've found exactly that, now that I have a smile on my face, people treat me better than ever before.

You've got to get up every morning with a smile on your face
And show the world all the love in your heart
Then people gonna treat you better
You're gonna find, yes you will
That you're beautiful as you feel

"Breathe (2 AM)" by Anna Nalick

My friend Kristina Morgan posted this song yesterday on Facebook and it fit this morning pretty well.  I don't think I ever really thought about the lyrics to this song before, so true...

'cause you can't jump the track
we're like cars on a cable
and life's like an hourglass glued to the table
no one can find the rewind button now

"Days Go By" by Dirty Vegas

This is a great song that I discovered because it was used in a Hyundai commercial (if I remember correctly).  I love the official vido for this song, very fun!

"Take a Giant Step" by The Monkees

I found a copy of the original Monkees album (in Mono no less) at Randy's Records yesterday and I have been enjoying it this morning.  I had forgotten about it when I posted a bunch of Monkees' songs back when Davey Jones died.

I can relate to the lyrics:

There's just no percentage in remembering the past
It's time you learned to live again at last.
Come with me, leave yesterday behind

It was also kind of apropriate that Micky Dolenz was wearing a dress in a couple of shots in the video clip.  :)

"Manic Monday" by The Bangles

This takes me back.  For some reason I remember hearing this song on the radio as I was turning onto the road onto Kaysville Main Street off of Highway 89 and going past Cherry Hill. Was I taking WJ to school that morning?

We heard this song a couple of days ago and it has been stuck in my head ever since (I think it was on KRCL).  There appears to be two different official videos, pretty fun!
