"Stoney End" by Barbra Streisand

In my original post for this date, not only did I misspell her name but it was a duplicate.

So here's another favorite from Ms. Streisand:

"The Way We Were" by Barbara Streisand

This was my original post for this date, but not only was it a duplicate, I also misspelled her name.  I'm leaving this post in case there are any links to it.

"Something In The Air" by Thunderclap Newman

I just happened across this great song on YouTube and it's another one that still holds true today: we have got to get it together...

"What It Feels Like For A Girl" by Madonna

Update 6-Apr-2017: added pictures of the book covers, changed the link so instead of linking to the book on Amazon, it links to the Wikipedia page for the book.  And... okay, mostly rewrote the whole dammed post :)

From the original post: Last night I started reading a book (Whipping Girl: A Transsexual Woman on Sexism and the Scapegoating of Femininity) and it clarified something I have been thinking: the reason transgender women are so looked down upon is because we are a threat to masculinity and male privilege:

"In a male-centered gender hierarchy, where it is assumed that men are better than women and that masculinity is better than femininity, there is no greater perceived threat than the existence of trans women, who despite being born male and inheriting male privilege "choose" to be female instead.  By embracing our own femaleness and femininity, we, in a sense, cast a shadow of doubt over the supposed superiority of maleness and masculinity."

This is such a great song and video!  It speaks to the same truth:

"Girls can wear jeans and cut their hair short, wear shirts and boots. 'Cause it's OK to be a boy. But for a boy to look like a girl is degrading. 'Cause you think that being a girl is degrading."

Note: the video above doesn't contain all the lyrics to the song.  This next one does.  And including the phrase SueZQ really likes:

Strong inside but you don't know it
Good little girls they never show it
When you open up your mouth to speak
Could you be a little weak?"

I was telling SueZQ about it and she reminded me of this song by Madonna.  I had never seen this video before and I just *LOVE* it!!  Madonna you ROCK!

"Little Lies" - Fleetwood Mac

I realized I have never posted my favorite Fleetwood Mac song... at least with the well known lineup (my other favorite Fleetwood Mac song is here).

"Show Me a Smile" by Fleetwood Mac

Here's another song that was on the sticky note on my turntable (see yesterday's post).  I think this is a lesser know Fleetwood Mac song, but it's one of my favorites.

"Dark Eyed Cajun Woman" by The Doobie Brothers

I had forgotten about this great song by the Doobies until I was playing my old cassette "favorites" tapes last year.  I wrote a sticky note to post it and stuck it to my turntable and it's been there ever since, LOL!

"Brave" by Sara Bareilles

This was on one of the CD's WJ gave me and I love it!

Update 17-Sep-2015: I think I can honestly say this was the worst day I've had since I transitioned and even farther back than that.  (It was in no way related to my transition.  I'm happy to say that I've only had one time where I doubted my transition and there were other factors in play that night.)

I'm sure that trying to function, yesterday, on only 2 hours of sleep didn't help.  But the main things I was doubting myself about were: in the days prior I opened up and told some things to some people who are most dear to me.  In the one case it was over something I should have dealt with 17-18 years ago.  Instead, back then, I was scared I might hurt somebody's feelings.

I came to the realization a few days ago, that if I had woman up'd all those years ago (okay, it would have been "man up" then...  no, wait, I was right the first time, I was always a woman I just didn't know it then.  :)  Actually, I could go as far as to say it very likely would have been better had I been my true self back then.  I am absolutely certain I am much stronger now and far more brave).

Anyway,  I see now that if I hadn't been afraid all those years ago, I could have taken steps to make things better.  Now almost 20 years have passed and so much water has gone under the bridge, it is hard to tell how much can be done.   I'm certain that some damage can never be undone.

This morning, after a few hours of sleep, I realized that this song was absolutely perfect for me in this situation:

You can be amazing
You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug
You can be the outcast
Or be the backlash of somebody's lack of love
Or you can start speaking up

Nothing's going to hurt you the way that words do
When they settle 'neath your skin
Kept on the inside and no sunlight
Sometimes a shadow wins

But I wonder what would happen if you...
Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out, honestly
I wanna see you be brave...

"Frost And Fire" by Everything But The Girl

There were so many good songs on EBTG's "Eden" album.  There is some vague lyrics in my head from one of the songs, but since I only have the self-titled "Everything But the Girl" album handy I can't figure out which track it is.  But this is a great song too... "we're as unalike as frost and fire"...

"Don't Leave Me Behind" - Everything But The Girl

This the first song by EBTG I ever heard, clear back on KCGL.  Hard to believe that was around 30 years ago!  How time flies...

"Old Friends" by Everything But The Girl

Photos taken when SueZQ and I were in San Francisco in 1999

Update 26-Dec-2018: added photos above.

I was playing an old CD-R in the car yesterday, this song came on and I thought it would be the perfect song for today.  I remember when it came out that a rumor went around that EBTG was breaking up and this song was an announcement.

"Shall I Tell Her" by Dionne Warwick

The last several Dionne Warwick songs I've posted, I heard first on a Columbia Record Club record titled "Dionne!".  I first mentioned it in this post last month.  The first video I've posted for this song has that album cover in the video.

"Heard It in a Love Song" by The Marshall Tucker Band

This popped up on YouTube when I was watching "Mr. Bojangles" the other day.  One of those songs I enjoy listening to, but I don't like the topic: a drifter running out on a woman...
