"A Little Help From My Friends" by The Beatles

Here it is 31-Dec-2018 and I have almost 80 draft posts that aren't complete.  I've decided just to post them without any comment or photos.  It's unlikely but maybe someday I'll find time to add something here.

"Across the Universe" by The Beatles

Here it is 31-Dec-2018 and I have almost 80 draft posts that aren't complete.

#EndOf2018post

I think this is around the time we had the Beatles discussion at Tavernacle and I changed my last song to "Come Together" and it healed me.  That night I felt like hell when I got there.  I parked and I hurt all over, I didn't even think I could do it so I decided to go back home.  Halfway home I changed my mind and turned around and went back to the Tavernacle.

The wonderful friends there that night and having the entire bar sing with me was incredibly uplifting.  I left feeling like a million bucks.  Also that night Whitley told me about the Across the Universe movie and that movie was such a great experience.

The movie you can rent on YouTube for $3.99:

"All That Jazz" by Whitley Jo

I missed the first of this, but my friend Whitley killed this at the Tavernacle   I love her sexy, sultry voice.

"Pink is Punk" by The Rock Princess and the Shecocks

My friend Sofia (The Rock Princess) and her band the Shecocks.  I love this song, just the whole idea that "pink is punk as fuck".

They had a record release party over at Diabolical Records at

238 S. Edison St.
Salt Lake City, UT 84111

I went over there and realized I had given out all of my ear plugs at the after party at Brewskies in Ogden after the Ogden Pride Festival, and after the show at Urban Lounge I couldn't do another show with no ear plugs.

I had a great parking spot but I came home to get ear plugs and I just had no energy to go back.  I know I only did half of my usual 5K at the rec. center, but I was exhausted.

This morning I woke up and was angry with myself for not going back.  I should have had Sue drive me over and that would have saved me from worrying about parking.  Morning after regrets...

"Take a Pebble" by Emerson, Lake and Palmer

This was one of those convoluted things.  I was searching for "Carl(a)" the movie on Wikipedia last night (see yesterday's post) and Carl Palmer (of Emerson, Lake and Palmer fame) was among the search results:

Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Palmer

I had no idea Carl Palmer was in the band "The Crazy World of Arthur Brown":

Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Crazy_World_of_Arthur_Brown

I posted their big hit "Fire" back on 3-Mar-2013 as one of the tracks on one of my old cassettes that I was listing (see my post from the day before yesterday).

Anyway, I was intrigued and read some more that Carl Palmer was also in a band called "Atomic Rooster" until he left in 1970 to form Emerson Lake and Palmer.

I was like: "oh wow there was some song I liked by Atomic Rooster, what the hell was it?".  I looked through all of the track listings for their albums and re-issues, to no avail, no songs jumped out at me as being familiar at all.  That started to drive me crazy.

I searched my old "Scott's" blog for "Atomic Rooster" because I was certain I had posted the song in it.  Nothing turned up, so this really started to bug me.

Then, I remembered it was on that CD that Skinny Johnny Mitchell (a DJ from KCPX radio back in the 60's and 70's) made back in the early 2000's.  I went out to the garage and dug through boxes trying to find that CD of songs that were only hits in Salt Lake City.  No luck, I didn't see it in any of the boxes I dug around in.  Now I was getting really frustrated!

I decided to try some Internet searches, and see if I could find any information about that CD, hopefully a track listing.  I found a copy of the CD in a "for sale" list, but no track listing.

I finally found an article about the CD in the Deseret News:

Deseret News: https://www.deseretnews.com/article/674363/Oldies-music-continues-its-strong-comeback-in-1999.html

It talked about it being for sale at Starbound Records (where I bought my copy) that used to be out on 3500 South in West Valley City.  I think about Starbound almost every time I drive past there.  The whole area has been torn down now.

In my searching I also found an "Air Check" video on YouTube of Skinny Johnny Mitchel from 1977.  It's kinda fun:

YouTube (Air Check 1977): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5BYyX0jvjQ

Anyway, it finally dawned on me that the song I was trying to figure out was by just the "Roosters", NOT "Atomic Rooster".  Then of course I found it in my old blog as my post for 20-May-2012.

So after all of that I decided to post one of my favorite Emerson, Lake and Palmer songs.

Cool that there is a karaoke version of this song, but I don't like to do longer songs at karaoke.  I felt a little weird about "Copacabana" when I did it a few weeks ago because it was the album version with a longer bridge instead of the single version.

"Crescendo" by Deb Oh

I watched the film "Carl(a)" last night and I thought it was pretty good.  Of course I could relate to a good deal of it.  It made me feel pretty... I don't know... maudlin, maybe?

Anyway, this song played at the end and it pretty much captured how I felt.  Funny, listening to the song last night I was thinking of it being about two girls.  But listening to it again, now, it is obviously about a boy and girl.  It was late last night so, I guess because I'm lesbian, I reframed it that way.

"Diamonds Are Forever" by Shirley Bassey

A few years ago I started filling in my old "Scott's" blog using songs from my old "favorites" cassette tapes (see my post on 1-Mar-2013).  This  morning I wanted to clean out some of the stuff, junk, shit in my room.  I found several of the notes I made with track listing of some of the cassettes and I thought I would scan them in so I could throw the notes into the recycling.

As usual I managed to turn it into a major project.  The one for Tape #11 had blanks and I decided to use Shazam to fill in the blanks and fix the ones I suspected I got wrong all these years later.

I ended up blowing several hours creating the corrected track listing above (see the original in my post for 15-Jul-2013, which was also a Shirley Bassey song).

"What's He Got?" by The Producers

I'm making these posts out of order, so this turned up while I was searching for the Skinny Johnny Mitchell's "Salt Lake's Rare Hits" CD (see my post for 25-Aug-2018).

I love this song.  The Producers always reminds me of my friends Renae and Bill that I hung out with a lot in the 90's.  They were very big on the New Wave.

The resolution of the video is so bad...

I love the old stereo equipment, reel-to-reel recorders oh yeah!

I'm sort of posting songs for the last few days in reverse order.  The song for tomorrows post reminded me of this song also by The Producers.

"Hang 'Em High Theme" by Dominic Frontiere

A few years ago I started filling in my old "Scott's" blog using songs from my old "favorites" cassette tapes (see my post on 1-Mar-2013).  I haven't completed it.  I posted an "corrected" list for Tape #11 on 23-Aug-2018 (yes, I'm posting this out of order).

I really like that I put three different versions of this song on the tape, so I've decided to put those three songs here.  This is original theme version from the movie was track #9 on the tape.

"Hellbilly Joker (Go Fuck You)" by Hank Williams III

OMG I fucking love this shit!!!

So when I was out at The Royal with the Petty Bitches (see my post for 2-May-2018) a friend (can't remember who now) was telling about this Hank Williams III album titled "This Ain't Country" and said I should check it out.

Turns out there was all sorts of drama around the record and yet another case of a record company fucking over an artist:

SavingCountryMusic: https://www.savingcountrymusic.com/curb-to-release-hank-iii-hillbilly-joker-album/

Anyway, this song really kicks ASS!!!:

This is SO COOL!!! - when I posted this song I noticed that it became my 1,000th published post in my (Rachel's) blog.  And that's not counting any of the posts in my old Scott's blog.

"Castles in the Air" by Don Mclean

A friend sang "Killing Me Softly" at karaoke the other night and I when they returned to the table I was saying if I remember correctly that song was about Don McLean.  This is my favorite Don McLean song.

Note: the "stereo" video is a re-recording, does that imply the original was in mono?

The "Tapestry" version is a faster tempo.

"Close to the Edge" by Yes

I'm so close to the edge so much of the time now, it only takes a tiny bit to put me over.

Here it is 31-Dec-2018 and I have almost 80 draft posts that aren't complete.  I've decided just to post them without any comment or photos.  It's unlikely but maybe someday I'll find time to add something here.

Played this album today and what a great song.  Interesting the label (Columbia Great Britain) of the 45 RPM single in the second video says it's a "Metronome" recording, whatever the hell that means.

"Voodoo" by Godsmack

I went to the Tavernacle to check out the karaoke vibe and somebody performed this song.  Trippy!

I had a terrible pain in my side (liver?) when I went.  I got in the queue to do a Doors song (usually a safe bet).  But the pain seemed to get worse and then I started to have muscle spasms in my hands so I canceled my request and came home.

"Ruin" by Cat Power

Lovely, I didn't finish writing this post and now I can't remember how this came about.  For some reason Cat Power came up and I was trying to remember what song of hers I really liked.

I would have sworn I had bought an MP3 of it.  Couldn't find one.  I thought perhaps I had posted it... nope!

I think this might be it, but I'm not 100% sure.  But this is a great song anyway!

At this point I can't remember what the above thing is about.  Likely Lindsay Lohan dissing the MeToo movement.

"Big Eight Blues" by Jack Teagarden

I watched all the seasons of Bosch (it was kind of a macho cop show, but I kinda liked it) on Amazon Prime recently and the main character was into jazz/blues (on vinyl).  This song was in one of the episodes and it is reallycool.
