Heard this on 103.1 The Wave earlier and thought this would be a great song for Halloween. I love all the videos. I loved the movie Body Double.

I'm a transgender woman who has loved music for as long as I can remember. My earliest memories are of sitting on the floor and listening to 45's and 78's. Music is the essential part of my life. Over the years I made many attempts to make a list of my favorite music. In 2011 I came up with the idea of http://scotts-vital-music.blogspot.com and creating the list by posting a song every day. When I transitioned in 2015 and changed my name I created this blog to continue the project...

"Something in My House" by Dead Or Alive
This Halloween we are mourning the death of Dead or Alive's Pete Burns. I think he was Carri's favorite singer. Last Halloween she even dressed up as him. (See my post from last Halloween).

"Poker Face" by Lady Gaga
I deejayed the Halloween Dance at the Wasatch Mountain Club with my friend Rob tonight. We have been doing this for around 25 years.
Tonight was the first time I presented female at the dance. Although I went "full-time" as a woman at the end of March 2015, I still presented male at last years Halloween dance because I had agreed to do the gig before I had decided to go full time as a woman. I felt funny about showing up at the gig as a woman, without any advance warning.
It was actually a very weird feeling after having been living as a woman all the time for over 6 months and then suddenly looking like a boy again. It was EXTREMELY WEIRD using the Men's facilities again!! I had felt out of place in them for a long time before that, but after living as woman for many months, it was downright CREEPY!
Anyway, we have been playing this song "for the kids" at these dances for several years. The kids seem to love this song and so do I.
Oh and I finally figured out that part of the chorus isn't "cherry pie" but "can't read my". DUH!! As I've mentioned before (5-Aug-2016) it is funny how you can confuse lyrics.
I love the intro in the live video where she talks about the song! An amazing woman!

"No Blue Skies" by Lloyd Cole
Update 7-Mar-2018: added an acoustic version from a live performance in 2017 (with his son?).
I so want the dress the woman in this video is wearing! Hell, I want to be that woman, she is just beautiful!
Anyway, I was listening to Lloyd Cole's first solo album (on vinyl) this morning and it is so amazing! Definitely one of my favorite albums of all time. I mentioned in my post on 21-Aug-2011 how I noticed the single "Downtown" when I was on my way home from work at like 3 or 4 AM.

"The Sounds of Silence" by Simon & Garfunkel
When I was posting "Master and Servant" by Depeche Mode a couple of weeks ago (see my post for 11-Oct-2016), I came across one video with that song that gave me kind of a creepy feeling, so I didn't include it in my post.
But there were some words in the video that were familiar lyrics from another song:
Hello darkness my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
It took me a few minutes to realized they were from this song. I remember playing this song over and over in my bedroom, downstairs in the house on Burch Creek.

"A Violent Impression" by This Picture
SueZQ and I watched the series finale of "Person of Interest" tonight. They were talking about life and what it means. I loved that they had a reel-to-reel tape recorder as the final message!
This song popped into my head during the ending. I've had some fatigue and I was thinking "what if I don't wake up?".
I recorded the CD-R shown above, almost 20 years ago. Notice that it is a 74 minute CD-R as was the only size available when CD-R's were first available. Within the first couple of years the 80 minute CD-R's became the standard and 74 minute blanks quickly became obsolete.
I'm fairly certain I made it before I met SueZQ. The title was taken from this song.

"Certain Things Are Likely" by Kissing The Pink
I was looking at my posts from 5 years ago, right after we started KCQN and looking at the New Wave songs I was posting. (It is so funny that 103.1 The Wave grew out of KCQN exactly 5 years later!)
Anyway, I was looking at my post from exactly 5 years ago today and it was my favorite song from this band. Here is another favorite by KTP...
I remember Mike Summers making a comment at some point that "Kissing the Pink means exactly what you think it means". Love you Mike!!

"Cccan't You See" by Vicious Pink
Building that Canton Village occupied for many years |
I was talking to one of the guys that worked there with me, we were standing right behind the counter that was right behind that door. He was telling me that he believed the lead singer of the band Vicious Pink was... I can't remember how he phrased it now, but to the effect that she was not a cis-gender woman. I believed him.

"Lift Me Up" by OneRepublic
I went out to see if the Camaro would start today and surprisingly it turned over and did start. But it was so rough, it obviously was missing on at least one cylinder.
I took the valve cover off and, as you can see above, found two of the rocker arms completely off the valves. My first thought was that this would be an easy fix, but when I tried to put the pushrods back in place on the lifter I discovered the piston in the lifter had a hole punched in it and the pushrod would slide down inside the lifter. So much for an easy fix.
How about another "lift me up" song?

"Life During Wartime" by Talking Heads
I logged into my old (before I transitioned) Facebook profile earlier tonight to update the cover and profile photos, so they are the same as my real Facebook profile. I came across a meme posted by a dear (female) friend that I worked with for years. It was heartbreaking to see such a nasty pro-Trump, anti-transgender thing being shared by an old friend!
I saw this awesome video this morning and Michelle Obama really sums up how I feel. Do we really want someone that brags about sexually assaulting women to be the leader of our country?
YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7e3QKKOp50
And it made me think about Mike Lee and how he was one of two senators that voted against the Violence Against Women Act (also see Utahans Against Mike Lee 2016).
We need to send Mike Lee back home and get someone that supports women to represent us! We need somebody that supports equal rights.
Before Mike Lee was elected to the Senate he was making $700,000 a year! He has no clue what it is like for normal people. We need somebody that knows what it is like for working class people, living paycheck to paycheck. We need Misty K. Snow!!!
I heard this song on 103.1 The Wave earlier and remembered what a great song this is. Definitely one of my favorite Talking Heads songs.
And kind of appropriate for this period of time!

"Master And Servant" by Nouvelle Vague
Well some bad shit went down last night, on the way to the debate (see yesterday's post). That was the nastiest trip to Utah County I've ever had. It was stop and go all the way from about 48th South to somewhere around Pleasant Grove.
Stop and Go traffic is no fun in a car with a stick shift anyway. It's downright brutal when the 2nd gear syncro is bad and the shifter is crotchety!
The Camaro didn't sound quite right when I left home, but since I was running late I didn't have time to check it out. By The Point of the Mountain I could tell it was not happy. In Utah County it felt like it was struggling more and more.
A little past Pleasant Grove it really felt like it was losing power. I told it that "you will get me to that debate". We we got off the freeway and had to deal with stop lights, I didn't dare let off the gas all the way. I was afraid that there was too much drag on the engine, that if the engine was at idle, it wouldn't have enough power to keep turning.
When I got on the BYU campus, I had no idea where the KBYU studios were. I pulled over into a parking lot to try to get my bearings. (I later found out that parking lot was where I SHOULD have parked.)
I thought I had missed the street and needed to go back and go further south. I pulled out of the parking lot and had to flip a U-turn. I completely smoked the clutch trying to hold it on a slight uphill, waiting for the traffic to clear.
By the time I got to the (wrong) parking lot the Camaro was just barely running. Smoke was pouring out, I think mostly from the clutch. It was a pretty long walk to the KBYU studios, in heels no less.
After the debate, we all went to a little place in downtown Provo to eat. Afterwards my friends took me back to the Camaro and I called AAA to tow the Camaro back to Salt Lake. It was around Midnight when they got the Camaro loaded and we were on the road home.
This cover version popped up on YouTube the other day when I was posting the original Depeche Mode version. I've played it many times and I love it.

More New Wave to celebrate KCQN being reborn as 103.1 The Wave!
And speaking of New Wave, my friend Carri who also did the
Newer New Wave" for KCQN and played a huge part in putting together stuff for 103.1 The Wave. Her son gave me the beautiful roses above. So wonderful!! I think this is the first time anyone ever gave me roses!
I've been a huge fan of Kate Bush ever since I first heard her on KCGL. This is one of my favorites from the Hound of Love album.

"Love Is All Around" by Troggs
Went to the Logan Pride Festival today and then drove around the Cache County area putting up Misty K. Snow signs in the Camaro. That car has been to more cities in Utah than any other car I've ever owned.
Anyway, I was thinking about all the beautiful and wonderful people at the festival and how there was love all around.
I could've sworn I took some pictures, but there are none on my cell phone. There are some great photos by Jesse Walker Photography on the Facebook Page!

"Roll Over" by Thompson Twins
Another track to celebrate KCQN being reborn as 103.1 The Wave!
This was my favorite Thompson Twins song during that era. A weird thing was that I found two different editions of the "Here's to Future Days" album on CD and one of them didn't have this song on it.

I found this from groovedigger00 in the comments of the "unreleased 12-inch" video. Apparently the CD's I found without this track were the UK release.
@aramanth It was to be the 2nd single after "Lay Your Hands On Me", but Tom collapsed from exhaustion right before its release, and Alannah saw that as bad luck, since the song was called "Roll Over", so she had them pull the UK single .... however, she couldn't convince them not to put it on the US version of the album. I talked to Alannah that year and she said "the record company in the US said that our album just wouldn't sell at all without that song, so they ignored me and included it."

In honor of the new station in town, 103.1 The Wave , I'm picking some favorites from the artists I first heard on KCGL. Hard to believe that was around 3 decades ago!

"Let's Go to Bed" by The Cure
I had a wonderful time in Cedar City and put up some more Misty K. Snow signs.
I also had one of those weird things happen that makes me go "huh!". I was standing in Home Depot talking to one of the clerks and one of my friends, Elsa, walked by. What are the odds?!?
She was one of the first people I met and talked to at the Millcreek Rec. Center, when I very first came out as Rachel.
Anyway, this is another old New Wave song to celibrate KCQN becoming 103.1 The Wave!

"Everything Counts" by Depeche Mode
It is absolutely crazy to think about this! KCQN has turned into 103.1 The Wave this morning! Almost exactly 5 years to the day that KCQN went on the air for the first time. It is so COOL to have been involved in the creation of a radio station in Salt Lake City!! Chet has said several times that The Wave wouldn't exist if it hadn't been for my help.
Unfortunately, I wasn't in Salt Lake for the first airing because I was returning from my trip to St. George with Misty K. Snow and the rest of her team. I stayed the night in Cedar City.
Anyway, I thought to honor the new station, I would pick some songs I first heard on KCGL, lo those many years ago. Like KCGL is what turned me on to New Wave in the first place and that led to my meeting Chet and the others involved with the various stations that grew out of it: KRP, KJQ, X96 and KCQN.

"Between Strangers" by Swing Out Sister
Another song I love from the "Kaleidoscope World" album. Maybe I've mentioned this before, but I remember playing with a kaleidoscope when I was a kid.
I've decided I should start including more information about the tracks I post, like what album and release it is:
